Which they can opt to receive over the course of the normal school year or spread out over the entire year. Their contract doesn't prevent the school system from shortening or lengthening the school year without a pay adjustment. They are required to attend and participate in the afterschool activities and programs assigned to them. They are paid extra for teaching summer school. About 10% teach summer school. Of the rest about half take the summer off and the rest get summer jobs.

Anew teacher fresh out of college with a bachelors degree makes in the mid to high 20's (thousands) depending on his specialty. A tenured teacher with a master's makes in the high 30's to low 40's. Administrative staff - counselors, vice-prin, and principal make from the mid 30's to the mid 60's depending on age, experience and position.
