in the relatively recent past -- my hubby taught there in a middle school for over 20 years before his knees gave out and he could no longer stand. That is to say, everything in the first paragraph sounds right. The salary schedule, of course, would be different, though hubby had a Master's and
L O N G experience building up. He always opted for 10-month pay and either taught summer school or worked the business he had going throughout his career after school and weekends. Needless to say my employment was required as well, to keep up with tuition for two kids K through 12 in the private Lutheran school we preferred.
