Subject: I used to swear by Tinactin in liquid form only
In reply to: WE67 's message, "Hey, don't beat yourself up! We ALL do it! I have the" on 19:54:21 05/30/02 Thu

My dad got a recurring fungal infection in the jungles of the Phillipines during the 2nd World War. By the time I went to college some 27 years later, the doctors had tried everything they could including repeated series of cortisone shots. It was a red painful infection that would get bad in the hotter months of the year and grew anywhere he had thicker cloth in his pants, like the waist band, under his back pants pockets, etc. Periodically he was so miserable I think he would have cried if he were the type for that.

My professor at college in 1973 told me about this new product, Tinactin, which was made from a chemical that was extracted from garlic. I told dad and within 2 weeks of starting to use it, a problem he had fought for nearly 30 years was gone forever. The professor told me to use only the liguid form, not creams or sprays. Apparently only that had the strength to be effective. I can hardly ever find the liquid eye-dropper bottle anymore. Lotrimin is based on a different chemical, I think, and is not as effective. In fact, I don't even know if Tinactin is the same product now as it was 30 years ago. I just tried them hoping initially that my son's problem would be minor and easily solved.

This professor told me that the scientist who first developed the idea got it from ancient remedies using garlic for skin rashes.
