cadillia.........i know that we shall never see the same thing here on this issue, so i will just address a couple of things you questioned and i WILL read your response and will undoubtedly learn from it, but please don't feel i am angry or ignoring your response when i don't respond. it's just that i don't know that it is fruitful to continue beyond this and your response.

i believe we can both agree that we can only make judgments based on what cbs has decided to show us, so if something happened behind the scenes or there were looks or comments made to make sean or vee feel there was anything racial going on there, i am not aware of it, and i can't bias my perception by assuming that things did or did not happen without my knowledge.

first things first. until last night, i never heard any of the non-african american contestants mention race to either sean or vee or to one another in discussing alliances or strategy. i did, however, recall sean discussing it with vee on a few occasions, right from one of the very first episodes. each time he brought this up to her, she sat quietly and listened but never outwardly agreed to what he was saying. he said that they should stick together because the others saw them as a unit because they were african american. if that was really the case, cbs has never aired it to my knowledge. i watch the morning show the morning after survivor airs and none of the eliminated contestants have ever mentioned it. i have only seen sean mention it until last night.

i had someone play their tape for me to hear the comments from pappy. they started the tape with vee, sean and kathy talking and vee saying that she has never seen race as an issue in this competition in response to sean addressing it with kathy. they then cut to neleh saying that race was never the issue in hers and pappy's relationship and that she felt it was unfair that their relationship was NOW being questioned along those lines by sean and vee. (for the record, however, i will reiterate that vee said that she never saw race as an issue in the entire competition.) it is then that pappy said that it was like they felt that they were owed something. while i still take this comment as furthering neleh's comment that she felt it was unfair that they bring racial bias into the situation where she felt it didn't exist, i can also see where it can be taken as a comment where one would think that pappy was showing his prejudices and including all african americans into this comment. neither one of us knowing pappy, it is hard to say what he was feeling at the time he made that statement, whether it was in response to a single situation or a deeply felt bias. but i will allow that we can both see it differently and will also say that it could very well be that you are right. if you are right, then i feel for anyone who has ever stood before this judge who could not see beyond his own prejudices. fact is, however, i can't make that judgment based on what i have seen from pappy thus far. he and neleh made a friendship right from the start and when they ended up on the other tribe, they still tried to remain aligned with their original tribe, until they saw that john had undermined them, and they formed an alliance with vee, sean, and kathy against what remained of their original tribe members.

as for vee and sean, i remember vee distancing herself somewhat from sean when the tribes realigned themselves, mostly because sean and rob were making total idiots of themselves and who would have wanted to have been a part of THAT? i don't know how strongly vee feels a bond to sean, but i believe sean felt a strong bond with vee.

so we were down to five last night and someone needed to go. out of the five, there were two closer relationships that existed, neleh and pappy, and sean and vee, leaving kathy in a vulnerable position or a position to swing the vote. by winning immunity, kathy was thrust into a powerful position and had to make a choice. we have no idea what her choice was based on and won't ever fully know as she is the only one who knows her heart, but we may get a better insight on sunday night. she may have gone into the tribal council with one idea and changed her mind after hearing people out. she may have always thought she was going to vote out sean but played it up for the cameras so that cbs could do their usual "lead them down one path and surprise them at the end" trick.

all i know is that i'm saddened when people see race as an issue during times when race isn't the issue. i'm also saddened whenever i see race AS the issue. in either case, nobody wins.

i agree with you that we are a culturally diverse society and we should each be allowed to celebrate our differences while not being pigeonholed by them. it would be great to see it in my lifetime, but i know we have a long journey ahead of us.

the neleh and pappy relationship remained strong throughout, and there was no question in my mind that when pappy won his luxury challenge he would choose his best buddy to come along for the ride. if i were the winner of a challenge, i would have done one of two things, chosen randomly or chosen MY best buddy. the fact that this relationship remains strong
