What?! She acts like a fool because of ADD? BS! I've got the same condition as TZA, and I never use it as an excuse for anything; it's something you have to work with, and I don't want any sort of special treatment because of it, positive or negative. There are all sorts of medications to help you deal with it. They're a pain to take, but they're there.

It's NOT a
>'Get out of jail free' card, where you say "I have
>ADD" and you're suddenly free from having to take
>responsibility and face no concequences.

I wish that I could just play the "I'm-exempt-from-responsibility-because-I-have-a-controllable-medical-condition!" card, but I can't. Neither can she. This is entierly unacceptable, especially since she has plenty of time to think before she hits the 'enter' key. Pushing a key on a keyboard is *quite* different from blurting something out in real life.

And it's *not* an excuse for lack of
>self-control or otherwise not making an effort to
>bring your weak areas under some kind of control.

Amen to that. I tried that excuse when I was in grade school and it didn't work. I've tried that excuse now, in high school, and it *still* doesn't work. People scarcley recognize it as an abnormality worth getting upset over (or at least, that's how my experience goes). I'm fifteen and I've learned to live with it and take medication to help. From what I understand, she's in her twenties and still can't cope? If she was really trying, she wouldn't have even considered this as an excuse. But, then again, this is *LQ* we're talking about.

>But the degree of the lack indicates two things: 1) if >she's on meds to help her control the problems, the dose >isn't high enough, and/or 2) she's just not making a >concerted effort to exercize any control.

There is always option three: she has medication and just isn't recognizing its potential to help her, thereby ignoring it. I went through that whole "Oh-my-willpower-is-stronger-than-the-ADHD!" phase and stopped taking my medication for a while. That is, until my math grade took a serious dive, my other grades started to drop, and my artwork became nay more than random scribblings here and there. I've learned my lesson and limits. Isn't it about time she learned hers?

*spits again* Git! The
>"I have ADD, don't blame me" shit may work with those
>who are too ignorant of it to see what you're really
>doing, but I'm not one of those people.

Experience is the best teacher, they say. I agree wholly with you, TZA. I'm miffed that she's trying to pass her behavior off onto a controlable medical condition; it's like badfic writers who claim dyslexia. It's immature, cutting corners, and pathetic.

So, in a nutshell, it's a very LQ thing to do. In hindsight, why am I surprised at all?
