I’m very sorry for any threads on here I have “over ridden” causing them to “drop” down, but I promise this is the last time I will comment “honestly cross my heart” lol.
I felt people need to be very aware of their role as “committee member” and I strongly urge any committee member, whether they belong to a church or any other company to please beware of your role/responsibilities and what it necessitates, regardless of what anyone tells you.
I strongly urge any type of committee members to familiarising yourselves with the “law” even if you have either been co-opted or voted on to any committee.
I am sure some of you remember a similar case in the papers few years ago, where a company had caused a person to be discriminated because of an injunction that another person in the company had against them. The committee members involved should have asked “both” to leave as the dispute had filtered in and had involved others in there. But, unfortunately the only asked just the one person. Although this company had “over seers” above them; they could not, like the SNU become involved, the committee where there to “run” things accordingly. They had not deviated from their rules I must stress that, but, had caused the other person emotional distress by the discrimination.
The case was won (Civil action) and each committee member was found to be at fault. Even though some hadn’t agreed on the decision made at the time, they were all responsible. Some genuinely didn’t know what their responsibility was, some genuinely didn’t understand when told, some did say they “didn’t think it would happen to them” and some just didn’t question their responsibility as a committee member. Each had to pay the court costs.
Why I am trying to warn each committee member in Daulby, the SNU can not be involved if a civil action is ensued by any individual against the committee member, even if they have not “deviated” from the rules/by-laws and person/s can bring a civil action against any committee member as a collective group or individual on any thing like:- psychological/emotionally/physically abuse they find attending a “spiritual church” or and including something very simple like tripping over a carpet and falling. It is the committee’s responsibility a responsibility you each have taken when accepting to be voted in. It was very sad to see these people in court with shocked faces as the genuinely didn’t know and had not been told properly what the title of “committee member” really meant. It was sad to see 4 elderly people sitting there, the 4 elderly people who hadn’t agreed but they had been “out voted” with confusion written all over their faces, shocked that they really didn’t think it would happen to them. So Daulby Road committee members I hope you all take heed in what I have written and hope no one comes back and say’s they had felt ill or they are now having “nightmares” after attending your church, because your “disclaimer” will be void in this situation and a civil action can even be taken on something as simple as that.
