The Pelicans set out with three simple needs to be a member of our squad. If any of the three were meet the player would qualify.
1. Ties to the Bayou State of Louisiana
2. One Time Player for the Chicago Cubs.
3. One Time Player for the Boston Red Sox.

I'll start with the guys we missed out on. Bill Dickey, Mel Ott, and Joe Jackson. Dickey and Ott are Lousiana Natives, natural fits for our squad. Management did not rank the guys properly so we missed out. Jackson's first professional team was the New Orleans Pelcians. We thought the fans would have liked to see a return to Pelican Park.

We had to do some interesting trades to get our squad right. We had to get rid of Ernie Banks to eventually wind up with Ryne Sandberg. As a Cub Fan, it was a hard choice, but with Al Dark a Louisiana boy, I had an easy replacement at SS.

Some players were able to fit in with us for falling under multiple catagories: Tony Pena (Red Sox and former Manager of the New Orleans Zephyrs), Lou Brock (Southern University and Chicago Cubs), Bill Bucker (Cubs and Red Sox). Lee Smith was able to qualify under all three so he gains a sort of tenure with the Pelicans and he will never be with another team.

Two guys did not qualify under normal conditions. Sal Butera, a memeber of my extended family, and Don Sutto, a fellow alumnus of Mississippi College.

We have no Championship Hopes. Sorry to say, any victories that come may just be happen stance. We have a few goals of 500 career saves for Lee Smith, 800 Career Home Runs for the Babe, and 1,000 Stolen Bases for Lou Brock.

Our Predictions for the Season,
MVP: Babe Ruth (Is his bat going to make some early surpries to go with 20 Wins?)
Cy Young: Vida Blue (The Ace of the Staff will surprise his hometown fans)

Leadership Award: Sal Butera, He will give his all for his one season.

Curt Flood Award for Courage: Ben McDonald, he fought and fought until he could be granted extra years.
