I have a B&W postcard of the Stratton Hotel in Odebolt
postmarked 1909. It was written by W. H. Hopkins (William Henry Hopkins) who lived in Odebolt from 1886 until his death in 1911. His wife Kate Moore Hopkins lived there until her death in 1924. I have several original copies of the Odebolt News. One has the front page obituary of Kate Moore Hopkins Oct. 2, 1924. William Henry Hopkins was a Civil War vet and has quite an impressive tombstone in the Odebolt Cemetery. His picture appears in "As Time Goes By"
with the 1882 members of the GAR Grand Army of the Republic.
I promised to send copies of all this info plus photos to the historical society in exchange for an obituary (d. Sep 10,1911), marriage record (Dec 28, 1864 Jackson Co, IA,) birth records of children all born Jackson Co., IA (William B. b 1866, Fanny b1867, Hattie (Harriet Louise)b 1868 married Jay L. Haddox 1886 Boone Co, Adelia b 1871, Lillie b 1875), names of Wm Henry Hopkins parents!!!
or any other info they could find about his ancestors. Are you connected to the Historical Society? Help me find the names of his parents and I'll send stuff to you too. Thanks
so much, Lee
