This is a board for people who have just about had it with something. And rather then rant and rave all over the place this board is tailor made to act as a place where you can curse to the dickens if need be.

OK, this has been the week of H-E-DOUBLE_HOCKEY_STICKS!!!

The Phukups ... er, Phillies, continue the freefall into oblivion; the $55M Flyers crashed and burned against Ottawa; the "I wish we drafted Paul Pierce" 76ers are about to go down in their first-round series with Boston (By the time you read this, the Sixers will probably be out already.); and the Eagles ... who don't even PLAY for another 4 months, just lost their featured running back for the season.

This is what we Philly fans get for being optimistic about our teams just 6 months ago! Truly, the Lord has cast his (middle) finger towards the City of Brotherly Shove and spoke unto us, "F*** you!"

It's been about 20 years since any of the 4 major franchises of the city have won a championship. Looks like it may be another 20 years or longer before I ever see another one ... if I ever see another one!

(Note: the only ones who can commiserate here are fans of teams in Cleveland, Buffalo, San Diego & Seattle ... and none of 'em have teams in all 4 major sports.)

Cleveland most certainly does have teams in all four major sports.

They have the Indians (Major League Baseball), the Browns (NFL), the Cavaliers (NBA) and the Crunch (soccer).

If you were thinking of hockey and not soccer, please forgive me...but I do believe Cleveland has an IHL team, which is still a professional hockey team, although they do not have an NHL team any longer (that team is now in Minnesota). BTW, there is also a WNBA team in Cleveland as well. I don't know the names of the WNBA and IHL teams, though.

One would really think, logically, that kids who live in the inner-city would want to use education as a means of getting out of their current situation and into a better life.

80 kids ... maybe, 4 give two @#%$s about their education. No support from the administration, either!

All that, and no pay!

Don't expect it C-tek. Most suburban kids don't care either. (At least from the ones that I knew. Two were stoned every morning, and most said that their dads could get them through school.) They see highschool as a big partying ground, and most just try to get through school so that they can go to work for their fathers. (Or so it appeared in my first Highschool.) Kids around the city, where I live now, do tend to care a bit more as they don't have the money coming from folks to attended Harvard.

If it helps you should know that most adults when asked who their rolemodles were in school say it was one of their teachers. :) You might be making an impression even with these kids that they'll carry with them for the rest of their lives.

I can totally understand your situation, as I was once in that situation myself. I don't know where you live, but I was living in Philadelphia, and the situation was the same.

And you are absolutely right. Kids in the inner city should want to get out of their impoverished conditions and seek a better life for themselves. Unfortunately, I think in some situations, the kids are the way they are because the parents may be a bit messed up as well. Not always, but in a lot of situations, it can be that way.

There are a lot of single-parent families in the inner city. There are children being raised by aunts or uncles or grandparents. There are kids who are in and out of jail because of the environment they live in. There are kids who, because they are teenagers, and this is the "experimentation" stage, they are getting involved with sex and drugs at an early age. Not something that we want to think about when we have children that age, either. (I am single, and I have no children, but I know that I wouldn't want to face having a child who was going astray of the way I was trying to bring him/her up at home.)

I have been both a regular and a substitute teacher and without full certification in both cases, and I truly agree and sympathize with what you have said above. I am going to be going back to school soon to get full certification, and I hope to be done in less than a year, as I had started at Temple University when I was in Philly, but trying to teach kids who didn't want to learn as well as go to school at night and try to learn from professors who sometimes rambled on and on and on about things that really didn't have much to do with the subject they were supposed to be teaching you, and it was a course required for certification...that was extremely difficult, but it did give me some valuable experience and life lessons as well.

BTW...you can also drop by my message board next door...Omar's Place...if you want. I would really like to hear from you, and the more people I get to come by and talk about whatever over there, the better. (However, I have a no-profanity rule at my board.)

I will say a little prayer for you when I get the chance. I hope your situation does improve.

Okay I'm upset over two things. First off I can't stand it that people run up their credit cards so much that they have to use twenty of them to pay for an item! Really that is making me sick, and then when I tell them that I can't use their card they give me this look like it's all my frikin fault! Computers mess up you know their machines! GARRRRARRRR!

Second thing is this whole Middle East problem between Israel and Palistine. I'm about ready to say that the whole entire area should be buldozed over and paved over like a parking lot! Then they could fight over who gets who's space! Its really disgusting, and there's very little to do about it since people will always blame another for their own problems!

Arrrrgh the whole thing makes me want to hurl!

I was thinking about running a new Angry Board, but with the strip, all the other boards I lurk at, getting everything I own in order, planning a Wedding, etc. etc..
