Okay. Good. What I tend to do is kinda similiar to Jhyne's way. The characters personality is affected by my mood at the time. But yes, you need to RP them so that you can chisel all of that overused stuff away and also t, uh, cement in place the characters personality. All of my chars have a bit of me in them, I think....varying in terms of how much of me....and which parts. It's easier, this way, to RP them, because you can call forth that part of you so that you can see through your chars eyes. Of course...sometimes the similarties between myself and my chars are almost non-existant. Take, for instance, one of my favorite chars, Olexio. Olexio is a squirrel. Highly paranoid. He lives in his own world, constantly muttering to himself. His mind warps events around him to make it seem like everyone is out to get him, all working together for the one cause....his death. For this reason, he arms himself heavily and lashes out with great ferocity at anyone that he thinks is a threat. Olexio really is nothing like me. And yet....I find him easy to play. Heh...I dunno....maybe I'm more insane than I think...But the thing is....alts don't have to be like their creator to be RPed well. Yet again, I'll link RPing with acting....they're so alike. When an actor plays a role....they have to leave themselves behind. They become their character...and how do they do that? Well....one thing that helps is knowing that character inside out. Knowing every little dimple in their personality. Every imperfection. Everything. They need to know the characters favourite colour, the thing that character detests the most. Everything. Even if it will never arise in the script. Why? So that they know their char. So that they know what motivates them. What angers them. What makes them smile. Everything. In this way, you can be helped to play a character that is nothing like you. Of course....knowing everything is a bit much....but try knowing alot about your chars. What I'd like you people to do is to (inside your posts), write a few paragraphs about your alt, preferbly a new one. Write everything you can think of about them...though try not to drag on with a detailed description of their life....do that sort of stuff in point form....do the important moments of their life. Just write about them. Anything and everything that you can think of.
