Author: Ryan and Spider
Subject: Training

The black stallion trotted happily around the ring. He was beginning to accept the bit and was tracking up and making a much more roundedshape as he moved. Ryan gave the transition for walk and let the horse's reins run loose. Spider dropped his head and streatched, glad of the rest. Today would be the day Ryan indroduced him to his 1st jump! Prepared on the side of the arena were trotting poles. Spider was quite happy to trot over those, but in the middle of the sand arena he had made a little X pole using rustic poles. Gathering his mount up Ryan asking for a medium walk, then working trot down over the trotting poles, then he turned down the centre line and presented Spider the fence. Spider began to slow down, but was urged forwards with Ryan's calf pressure and clicks made with his tongue. Spider stepped over the small jump with his front legs, but hopped over his back legs. He trotted off, Ryan telling him how good he was. Once more they approached the X pole. This time Spider jumped it, a very highand wild leap, but still a good attempt thought Ryan. he hopped off, and offered a carrot to hiim from his coat pocket. The black stallion chomped it gratefully. "Good laddy!" Praised Ryan and taking his reins over his head, led the horse back to the yard.
