Subject: Build me up, buttercup, don't break my heart... something something...

forgot the rest of the lyric, doesn't matter: point is RID BUILD KING is out!!!
I found the four Build Boyz at TRU today, $10.99 each. I didn't have $40 to spare this paycheck(or rather, not after some Titan AE on clearance, DBZ 2for1 at EB, and volumes 4 and 5 of Skeleton Key(now have the full series, which I think means I've now got every Andi Watson comic!)), so I just got the red kill-bot, Build Cyclone. (let's see if I remember correctly: orange dozer is build boy, yellow dumper is typhoon, green crane is hurricane, and red is cyclone?)
Anyways, Mr. Assassin droid is pretty swanky. I imagine any of you who are interested in such things have either seen the pics already online, like I've been ogling for a year now, or have this toy already. So I won't go into a proper review, just a few initial impressions.
The only real difference I can see from the pictures of the japanese toy, aside from the small Autobot logo on the left side turret block, is that his big gun barrel is the same greyish plastic as his thighs and forearms, and not the darker grey it should be. But minor quibble, it's still gigantic and cool.
His articulation is simultaneously better and worse than I thought, and his proportions are more clunky and G1-esque than I realized. Those seeking a good G1/BW hybrid should get this guy and the yellow dump truck... And the Indyheat/Wreckerhook 2-packs, those things are fun too.
I still can't get over that he's a DX... All the old combiners were small figures, so I'd expected him to be smaller. But bigger is better.

My only complaint is that the plastic looks cheap, almost bootleg like. It feels just fine, but it looks cheap somehow. Hard to explain... He doesn't look bad, per se, just a little off. Odd.

Enough: my main point is that now that I have one in hand, I've been able to think about how I want to do Build King Good/Build King Bad, or rather, Build King and Neo Devestator.
The plan, at the moment, is to go ahead and buy two of each guy. I'll then repaint one of the dump trucks and one of the dozers in shades of green: probably lighter than the green scoop truck's darker shade. Then two red trucks/orange dozer/yellow dumper become Build King, and two green scoops/newly green dozer/newly green dumper become Devestator.

This way, not only will Build King have a more coherent color scheme to contrast Devestator's green/purple, but they'll have different legs, to make up for using the same parts. It won't just be a Build King painted green, which was my original plan. BK will have big blocky legs and arms, Devestator will have tread legs and blocky arms. I'll have to paint their gear purple...
Additionally, they'll have different weapons: both will have the claw/shield, but BK will have two guns vs Dev's two...er...serrated blade whatsits.

Of course, this plan will cost me an extra $44 to get a Devestator set, but it should be damn cool when it's finished. And since I'm very likely going to be working at KB at least over the holidays, I'll have extra income and I can afford extravagant things like this. Maybe I'll break down and get Prime and Magnus too... Or maybe not. Having played with a set for a while, I'm not sure I'd dig them so much, unless I had a big table or countertop to just put stuff on and keep it out for mindless diversions. Until I can do that, with either a pool table($300 at Freddies), a countertop, or a second desk, which means, until I get my own place, they'd just be gathering dust.

Speaking of extra money around the holidays, $80 dreamcast at KB minus 25%! employee discount = $60 dreamcast = I'm buying one. Game recommendations?
also should be able to afford those Love Hina xmas figures, and some Volks Neo Guys, and the Zoids Whale King, and not waiting for import versions of Kanchi and Haruko. Gonna be a sweet christmas this year!
anyone know where I can find a Baki the Grappler toy? I saw ONE at Just Be, couple months ago, they sold out instantly. Now I really want one, even enough to pay $40, but I CANNOT FIND ONE!!!

the titan ae drej figures are cooler than I thought... too bad my TRU didn't have the drej drone with the gun arm! Now I really want that one!
tried out Devil May Cry, it's visually cool, but the controls are as frustrating as ever. I'm not a console gamer, so I'm used to using the mouse to control where I'm looking/headed, and using the arrow keys to move. What that allows is for you to steer with the mouse, and use the arrows for forward/back, and SIDESTEP!!! I hate trying to play games that don't have a sidestep key, it's so hard to point myself in right direction... In Half Life, you can run down halls sideways, blasting away into open rooms, or run down stairs sideways so you don't have to turn around when you reach someone, you're already facing the right way.
but still, DMC looks amazing, I'll definately get it when/if I get a PS2. Since i'm so behind on consoles, my plan is to now get a PSone, DC, and N64 since they're dirt cheap and games are $10 each used. Play those til I get bored, then move on to the next gen, when the next next gen system is out.

Sean
when you scope out the X-Box box, my uncle designed it! Kinda neat, it's a cool box. he says that Microsoft didn't even notice the hal resemblance until his team pointed it out to them.
