I think it varies from person to person and there reasons. I wouldn't speak on everyones behalf, Nostalgia, Representation of favorite characters, and others all factor into it.

Me personally i think my love of the action figures comes from some basic primal fasination with "minatures". I've just always had a thing with minature sculptural representations of things, like diorama's and such. Toys happen to fit in that catagorey, and i find them the most interesting. I find resin kits and such interesting but the price puts me off on those.

That and the combination of wanting 3d tangable representations of characters i like probably started my need for toys.

Unfortunatly my taste have grown over the years i've been collecting. Now not only do i want minature representations of things i like, but now I've aquired a taste for well designed toys, and the whole art that goes into making well designed toys. I don't nessisarly have to like the property any more if i find some toys to be well engineered, and interesting I'll get them.
