Subject: Prrrreeeesenting! The worst most aweful SUB!!

This is rich. I picked up a VCD set of Gatekeepers yesterday (before my Monsterc Inc goldmine) coz it was

a) Jap track, English sub
b) $5 cheaper than the usualy price of $12

And friggin hell! It's a pretty OK anime overall...good animation, well-paced, and pretty funny, but Man, the sub sucks!!

heh.

This particular gem was subbed in Hong Kong, unlike the Trigun sub I got for Eku which was ripped from the US DVD series. So it's filled with the most horrible English I've ever laid eyes upon.

The syntax is so bad Yoda would have fits, the past, present and perfect tenses are all screwed up, and the scripter apparently has an overconfidence in his/her engish abilities. They CAN'T use simple language to say what they have to, and instead bombard the viewer with the most bombastic phrases that don't make any bloody sense. Worse still, all the names are translated as how the Kanji sounds in Chinese! Some choice quotes(The actual meaning in green) :

man: Is it Surprised?
What the??

Gah, thank goodness the Japanese isn't too hard for me to catch, or I'd be driving myself nuts trying to make sense of the subtitles. Truly these are subs that make your eyes weep in painful incomprehensibility. They mess with the names, screw the english language up, use direct (literal) translations that don't work outseid of Japanese, and just pass over anything they can't understand as "the stuff". GeeZ!!
