I despise this show. It swipes from almost everywhere and mashes it all together in a horrible mediocre paste. There isn't a single original idea in the show, which is understandable, but it's doesn't even do it well! And it's slow as hell, and for god's sake, would someone please never let these voice actors near a microphone again? It's TERRIBLE! Ugh. I can't bear to watch the show at all anymore.
It's like the show just sits on your head and crushes you for half an hour.
Now, Ray, when you say gay, do you mean "Gay" or do you mean "Woo-Hoo Fabulous Gay"?
At this point, putting the male leads in taffeta ballgowns would be butching it up.
But enough of that, let's talk Yu Yu Hakusho.
Despite the title of this post, I have to say that I'm really getting into the show. When I saw the first episode, I could see that it sucked, but the show had promise...so I watched another episode and it starts going somewhere, and now, here I am looking forward to the next episode.

Here's what I think Pilot Candiate is:
1 part Evangelion
1/2 part Xenogears
3 parts Gunbuster
1 part Digimon
94 and 1/2 parts BORING AND STUPID

Mix well, vomit, put it on the goddamn toonami where it belongs and GIVE US SOME ADULT PROGRAMMING, ASS!
