the us dub makes it fairly clear that edward is supposed to be a girl.
hard to tell though. before I'd seen the show I had assumed ed was a boy...

only bebop h-doujins I've seen were ed surprising faye in the shower, where ed was a boy, and then spike and ed, but ed was a girl in that one. still a tiny pre-pubescent girl, but at least she didn't have a penis.

yaoi doujinshi makes me feel a little better about dirty thoughts about cartoon characters. at least it's not just a loser male thing...
Of course, if ever something was begging to be made into a hentai, it'd be Jesse and James from team rocket. god knows they have to be doing something to stave off depression after having thier asses handed to them by an giant yellow mouse every day.
