In reply to: Amanda 's message, "can I have your snow?" on 18:13:33 04/22/02 Mon

When the snow starts in October and is still here in April- it gets real annoying. Trust me, snow is not fun. It's very beautiful and great for Christmas but think about these thing:

Starting your car 20 minutes early so that the ice caked onto your windows has time to defrost before you have to go to class/work.

Shoveling your car out of 500 feet of snow and brushing even more off of your car (can take up to 15 minutes sometimes). Snow up to your knees then wet pants for an hour after the snow melted- despite your best effort to get all the snow off.

The car getting stuck in the driveway when you're already running late!

Driving your car 20 miles an hour because the roads are so bad not to mention the nights you can't see a darn thing because of wind/blizzards- those nights you drive 10.

Even without snow/ice on the car waiting 10 minutes for your car to defrost because of the frozen ice crystals on the inside windows of your car.

Having snow at your college graduation in MAY during an outside ceremony! (happened years ago)

Ice Storm 98- hear of this one? Inches of ice EVERYWHERE!!It was horrible! Couldn't travel for weeks on some roads and some people didn't have power for up to 2 weeks! No running water, no heat, no lights, no stove, etc during the coldest time of the year- JANUARY! We didn't have school for two weeks but it was boring staying home with no power! Power lines were down everywhere and you can still see how the ice storm demolished out trees as the branches are all broken and bent. Imagine a police curfew of 6 pm for EVERYONE and you weren't suppose to be out unless it was an absolute emergency!

Just a few things- might change your mind about snow. I know, I know, I sound cynical but it's because I've been living with snow all my life. In fact, I didn't really hate snow until I had a car to deal with in the snow/ice. I'm sure you have your things about Louisiana- bugs, muggy weather, etc. As far as snow goes- it can stay until after Jan 1st (the holidays aren't the same without snow for me) and then it can go bye bye.

Emily :o)
