The crowd comes to their feet as “Whatever” signals the arrival of the challenger, Chris Benoit! The Crippler walks out onto the top of the stage, going from side to side and gives the fans a chest pound before making his way down to the ring. He slides inside and holds his fists above his head as he awaits the champion.









The lights go out as the slow drumming to Dope’s “Debonaire” begins to pound over the sound system. As the tempo increases, lights begin to flash at the entranceway as smoke appears, and through the smoke walks the World Champion, Jesse Hart! Hart stands at the top of the stage with the championship strapped firmly across his waist. He has his hands on his hips as he surveys the arena, wiping a line of sweat from his forehead and flicks it onto the camera lens before making his way down. He climbs up the ring steps and stands on the apron, waving off a rabid fan in the front row and focuses his attention on Benoit as he cautiously enters the ring.


He meets Benoit in the middle of the ring, raising the championship high above his head with one arm, letting Benoit know just WHO the champ really is. Mike Chioda then takes the championship and raises it above his head, showing these Vancouver fans, and the world, what’s on the line. He then calls for the bell as both men stare one another down. Benoit looks as intense as ever, so much so, in fact, that it forces Hart to look away and to the side. Then, in an instant, Jesse rams an elbow into the side of Benoit’s head, stumbling him back to a LOUD round of boos from the fans.

Hart meets the Wolverine with a fist between the eyes, shoving him back first into a corner. Hart then LACES a chop across Benoit’s chest, having not forgotten the 20 plus he received from him the last time they fought. He measures him and laces another one across his chest, breaking out into a smirk. However, Benoit retaliates with one of his own, stunning the champion!

Jesse goes for another, and Benoit just shrugs it off, firing one right back! This moves Hart out of the corner, and Benoit fires another chop that sears across the champion’s chest! Jesse refuses to allow this to happen, and he gives Benoit another! This seems to fire the Crippler up, however, and he slaps his own chest, asking for another! Jesse’s eyes grow wide, and he responds with the loudest chop of the night! Benoit stumbles back from that one, but he comes forward and slaps himself again, asking Hart if that’s all he’s got. Infuriated, Hart chops the challenger again, and then again! Chop! Chop! Chop! But Benoit refuses to give in and decides to fight back, shoving Hart’s arms away and smacks a chop across his chest!

Jesse stumbles back into the ropes where Benoit laces another series of chops across his chest! The crowd continues to”Woooooo!” with every chop as Jesse cowers away into a corner, and Benoit is right on him! Chop! Chop! Chop! Chop! Chop! Chop! Chop! Benoit has now drawn blood from the champion’s chest and he fires him across to the other side. Hart hits the corner HARD and comes rebounding out. Benoit grabs his wrist again and fires him to the other side, and Jesse hits the corner so hard that he flips right OVER it and goes crashing to the floor! Benoit then measures Hart, waits for him to stand, and then with a head full of steam comes flying through the middle ropes with a cross body, and they crack heads together, sending Hart to the floor and Benoit upside down into the barricade!

The crowd is going wild for this match as Chioda checks on both men. Hart pulls himself up before Benoit, walking away from him, holding his head and his chest, breathing heavily. Benoit follows Hart to his feet and continues to stalk him like the Terminator! Hart looks back at Benoit and says to hell with it, stumbling around the ring. Benoit shakes his head out and begins to give chase. Hart slides into the ring and waits Benoit in, and as soon as he slides in after him, he goes to punt him in the ribs, but Benoit pulls his legs out from under him and goes for the Sharpshooter! Hart fights it, so Benoit simply drops down onto him, going for a Crossface!

The champion quickly latches onto the ropes, yelling at Chioda to break it up, which he does. Jesse crawls into a corner, and Benoit follows him in, but as soon as he arrives, Jesse comes up with a back elbow to the jaw that rocks the challenger. Jesse then quickly takes him into the mat with a side Russian leg sweep, covering for a two count. As soon as Benoit kicks out and rolls onto his stomach, Hart attempts the Crossface himself, locking the challenger in!

The crowd BOOMS with boos as Benoit misses the ropes, and he’s trapped in his own hold! Hart SCREAMS at Benoit to “TAP OUT”, but Benoit manages to roll Hart onto his back, holding him there for a two count before the champ is forced to release the hold! Hart rolls away and to his feet, and then rushes Benoit, ramming a knee into his head as he sits on his knees. Benoit crumbles to the mat, and Jesse follows it up with a leg drop across the back of the head, rolling him over and covers for another two count.

The champion now begins to hammer away on the challenger, looking for blood. He pulls Benoit to his feet just to slam him back down to the mat. He measures him and drops straight forward with an elbow to the top of his head, pinning him for another two count. Hart gets on Chioda’s case, ordering him to count “fairly”. He pulls Benoit up, but the Crippler quickly goes around him, taking him over with a German suplex to a pop from the crowd!

Benoit keeps his fingers locked and rolls through for a second, but Jesse holds firm. Benoit begins to hammer away on him with forearm shots, softening him up and takes him over with a second! He holds on and rolls through for a third, but Jesse reaches forward and latches onto the ropes. Benoit begins to fire away again, pulling Hart away from the ropes and jacks him into the mat with a third consecutive German! The crowd pops as Benoit goes to his feet, signaling for the end! He moves to the ring apron and climbs up to the top rope, setting his feet; however, Hart shoves Chioda into the ropes, crotching Benoit up top!

Jesse stumbles over and drills Benoit for a few right hands, climbing the ropes. He attempts to hook him for a Superplex, but Benoit retaliates with a series of vicious head butts that sends Hart flailing back down to the canvas. The crowd then goes WILD as Benoit sets his feet, extends his arms out to his side, and flies off with the Swandive head butt, connecting dead on! He rebounds off of Jesse and shakes his head out, crawling back over and hooks the leg, holding him down for the one, two, TWO! Hart kicks out!


Jax: NO! Hart kicks out!

Heyman: Chris Benoit was TWO SECONDS AWAY! Two seconds away from becoming the World Champion!


Benoit looks up to Chioda in shock as Hart rolls onto his stomach. Once he realizes where he is, he quickly rolls away from Benoit, expecting a Crossface, which is exactly what the Crippler goes for! He latches onto Hart, but Jesse lifts his knee, trying to fight it off. He manages to pull Benoit’s legs in, steps through, and tries to turn him over into the Sharpshooter! Benoit fights it, leaning on the opposite side, and then pulls Hart in with a small cradle for a one, two, TWO! Jesse rolls free once more!

Both men make it to their feet, and Benoit chops the HELL out of Jesse’s chest, firing him across. Jesse hits the corner and quickly moves to the side, ducking under a Benoit charge and jams him into the mat with a Full Nelson slam, covering for the one, two, TWO! Now it’s Benoit who kicks out!

Both men are breathing heavily, and Hart beats Benoit to his feet. He makes his way over and pulls him up, attempting to fire him across, but Benoit reverses. However, Hart comes off the ropes with a high knee-lift to the head that floors Benoit to the mat. Jesse stumbles back into a corner and leans there, and then he breaks out into a smirk as he gives Benoit a crotch chop! He then comes out of the corner with a jumping knee drop, but Benoit rolls out of the way.

Jesse rebounds to his feet, kicking his knee out, and Benoit laces a chop across his chest. He fires him across and drops him on the return with a running double forearm shot to the chest, followed up by a second, and then a snap suplex. The crowd is FIRMLY behind Benoit as he builds some momentum, pulling Hart up and takes him over with a HIGH hanging German suplex, crunching him into the mat! Benoit pops up to his feet and looks out to the crowd, giving the throat slash signal! He moves over to Hart, but Jesse cracks him on the jaw with an uppercut, and then pulls his head between his legs, DRIVING him head first into the mat with a Piledriver! He leans over Benoit, bobbing his head along with the one, two, three! No! Benoit kicks out!

Hart’s eyes BULGE out of his head as Benoit kicks out, in complete disbelief! He argues with Chioda, but turns his attention back to Benoit. He measures him, setting up for the Hart Stomp and moves in, but Benoit catches it! He spins Jesse around, latching onto him from behind for a German, but Hart battles back with elbow shots to the head. Benoit then shoves the champion forward, and Hart goes running over the referee and takes him down to the canvas! As soon as he turns around, Benoit takes him face first into the mat with the Crippler Crossface, and after a few moments, the champion taps out furiously! The crowd then IMMEDIATELY breaks out into a chant of…


“YOU TAPPED OUT! YOU TAPPED OUT! YOU TAPPED OUT! YOU TAPPED OUT!”


Benoit releases Hart, going over to check on the ref, pissed right the hell off that he hasn’t been named the World Champion yet! As he shakes Chioda awake, Hart pulls a pair of brass knuckles from his pocket, wrapping it around his fist. He stalks in behind Benoit, but EDGE, of all people, slides into the ring and begins to bounce on his toes, waiting for Hart to turn around!

The crowd makes some noise, and as soon as Jesse turns around, his eyes go wide as Edge comes racing in! Hart steps out of the way, and Edge goes PLOWING into Benoit with a Spear! Edge pulls at his hair as he turns around, and Jesse DRILLS him with a Hart Stomp!

The champion quickly kicks Edge out of the ring and tosses the brass knuckles out with him, going over to Benoit as Chioda pulls himself up. Hart pulls Benoit’s head between his legs and gives two thumbs down, latching onto him with a double under-hook and goes up and DOWN with a Pedigree! Jesse rolls him over, covering Benoit with a grin and counts along as Chioda counts the one, two, THREE!


“Debonaire” rips over the speakers as Jesse Hart collects his championship, raising it above his head with a smirk. He slides to the outside and walks backwards up the ramp, locking eyes with Edge. He glares at Edge and does the throat slash signal, letting him know what’s to come as Smackdown! goes off the air!
