We take you back to ringside where ladders are laid out all around the ring, surrounding it, with the final gigantic ladder which stands tall at the bottom of the ramp. The camera then pans in on the World Championship that hangs from the ceiling, showing the fans what’s on the line.










“Whatever” blasts over the speakers and the crowd cheers loudly for the arrival of the “Rabid Wolverine” Chris Benoit! Benoit marches down the ramp on his toes and stops in front of the set up ladder at ringside, walking around it and slides into the ring, pacing around it as he awaits the champion.









“I Don’t Suck!” blasts over the speakers, and the crowd explodes for the arrival of the World Champion, Kurt Angle! Kurt walks out and stops partway down the stage with his “Team Angle” hood flung over his head, throwing his arms into the air as his pyros blare up from behind him. He then makes his way down to the ring, his face full of intensity as he stops in front of the ladder, looking it up and down before walking around it and up the ring steps, entering the ring. He foregoes his usual spin and walks right up to Benoit, going forehead to forehead with him!


Referee Mike Chioda goes to get between the two, but they waste no time in getting into it right off the bat! Kurt quickly gives Benoit a two-handed shove to the chest, and Benoit replies immediately with a SLAP across the face! Kurt’s hood falls off and he quickly comes forward with a right hand, and Benoit fires back with a chop! Right hand! Chop! Right hand! Chop! Right hand, right hand, right hand, and Benoit falls into the ropes, but he grabs Angle by the hoody and yanks it right off as he tosses him into the corner, chopping the HELL out of the champion! Chop! Chop! Chop! Chop!

Benoit goes to fire him across, but Angle reverses the Irish whip and chases in right after him, running into a double boot to the mouth! As Kurt stumbles out of the corner with his back turned, Benoit hooks on to him and takes him over with a German! The Crippler holds on and rolls through, connecting with a second German, and then a third!

Benoit pops back up to his feet as Angle is laid out on the mat and rolls to the outside, grabbing a ladder along the barricade and sets it on the apron, going to slide it into the ring. However, Angle pulls himself up and comes charging in with a baseball slide, sending the ladder right into Benoit! The ladder drills Chris right on the nose, busting it up as he goes flailing back into the barricade to a pop from the crowd as Kurt follows him out, bodyslaming the Crippler onto the ladder! The crowd then begins to make some noise as Angle climbs onto the barricade, sets his feet, and then comes off with a moonsault, CRUSHING Benoit into the ladder even more!

Chris HOWLS out in pain, rolling off of the ladder and onto the floor, clutching his chest and kicking his feet in pain! Kurt then takes a new ladder and slides it into the ring, following it in and sets it up. He takes one last look at Benoit who’s down on the floor, trying to recuperate, and then begins to climb the ladder. As Angle reaches the top, reaching for the belt, Benoit climbs to the top rope and flies off with a missile dropkick, knocking the ladder over, and sends Angle rebounding chest first into the ropes!

Kurt is slingshot back into the ring off the ropes and lands on the back of his head, flipping over onto his stomach. Meanwhile, as quick as a cat, Benoit drops down onto Angle and locks him in the Crippler Crossface! The crowd is cheering loudly for the back and forth, and after a few moments, Angle begins to Tap Out!

With only one way to win the match, and knowing that a submission isn’t one of them, Benoit releases the Crossface and pops back up to his feet, taking a look around. He moves over to the ladder and picks it up, takes a moment to think, and then props it up in a corner. He then pulls Angle up and goes to whip him across, but Kurt pops his hips and reverses, pulling Benoit into an over the head belly-to-belly, sending Chris crashing upside down into the ladder!

Kurt now spins with a “Wooooo!” as Benoit rolls around on the mat in agony, clutching his lower back. Angle then comes off the ropes with a rolling elbow onto Chris’ lower back before pulling back on his chin with a chin lock, jamming his knee into the small of Benoit’s back. Kurt then releases the hold and grabs the ladder, hoists it above his head, and then brings it CRASHING down onto Benoit’s back!

The Crippler goes rolling into the corner and struggles up to his feet, and Angle comes roaring in with the butt of the ladder, jamming it into his mid section! Kurt then drops the ladder to the mat and hooks Benoit from behind, taking him over with a release GERMAN onto the ladder this time!

Benoit rebounds off the ladder and flops all the way across the ring, absolutely SCREAMING out in pain! Kurt now places the ladder in position and begins to scale it to the top, but Benoit is right behind him, grabbing at his feet and climbs up behind him. Kurt throws a few elbows back, trying to knock Benoit off, but Chris takes each one of them as he latches on Kurt’s waist, and he then muscles Angle off the ladder and DRIVES him into the mat with a HUGE German suplex!!

The crowd goes WILD as the ladder tips over onto them, and both men lay down and out! Angle is face first on the mat, grabbing the back of his head, seemingly in a tremendous amount of pain! However, Benoit battles through the pain and to his feet, picking the ladder back up just to see that it’s ruined, so he tosses it aside. He then moves to the outside and grabs the gigantic ladder, sliding it into the ring. As soon as he enters, Kurt is back up and is right on him, jamming an elbow into the back of Chris’ head. Angle pulls him up, but Benoit immediately goes to pull him down into a Crossface, but Kurt goes low with an ANGLE LOCK!

Benoit tries to battle his way free, but Kurt has it locked in tightly! With nowhere to go, Benoit sucks it up and Taps Out! As soon as he does so, Angle releases the hold and goes over to the ladder, pulling it up and props it up in the corner. He pulls Benoit up and between his legs, lifting him with a Powerbomb and races into the corner, Powerbombing him into the propped up ladder!!

Benoit hits the ladder back and head first and comes stumbling out, falling face first into the mat! Angle now stands the ladder up in the middle of the ring and begins to scale it, but somehow, Benoit is scaling it on the other side, trying to catch up! Once he reaches the top, Kurt reaches for the belt, but Benoit chops him across the chest! Kurt fires back with a right hand, but Benoit grabs the champion by the head and rams it into the top of the ladder once, twice, and then a third time, sending him flailing off and into the ropes! The ladder then teeters from side to side and Benoit tries to stabilize it, but he can’t and he falls forward, crunching Angle with his body weight AND the ladder!

The crowd is completely into this match as Benoit pulls himself up, standing the ladder up in a corner. He then looks down to Angle and out to the crowd before giving the throat slash signal and climbing up to the top! Benoit now stands perched atop the 15 foot high steel ladder and comes flying off with the Swan Dive head butt, crashing directly onto Kurt’s chest! The crowd immediately breaks out into a chant of…


“HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT!”


Benoit’s head rebounds off of Angle and he goes rolling all the way across the ring, grabbing his head and kicking his feet on the mat in agony. Over on the other side, Kurt rolls over onto his stomach and lays down and out, not moving a muscle! A full 45 seconds goes by before Benoit crawls into the corner, dragging the ladder into the middle of the ring and begins to scale it. Once he’s halfway up, Kurt begins to scale it on the other side, and it’s a race to the top!

Benoit sees Angle catching up to him and he bolts up to the top, grabbing at the championship, touching it with his fingertips as Angle tries to catch up to him! However, once at the top, Benoit begins to chop away at Angle, and Kurt holds onto the top of the ladder with all he’s got, but Benoit finally chops him down! The crowd now begins to make a LOT of noise as the ladder teeters from side to side, but it finally stabilizes and Benoit quickly grabs a hold of the championship!
















The crowd then BOOMS with boos as JESSE HART comes racing down the ramp, sliding into the ring and runs right into the ladder, shoving it over and sending Benoit crashing THROUGH the announce table on the outside!!

Hart then pulls Angle up by the singlet and sends him crashing shoulder first through the ropes and into the ring post! Angle rebounds off the post and crumbles to the outside as the fans shower the arena with boos! Hart then sets the ladder in place and climbs it to the top, grabbing a hold of the championship and raises it above his head triumphantly!

Chioda calls for the bell, throwing this match out as Jax and replacement color commentator Josh Matthews close the show, and Hart stands perched at the top of the ladder with a smirk, being showered with boos as he celebrates with Angle’s championship!
