If you feel I upset you at certain times in our youth, then I'm sorry. But its part of growing up. Much of it was in response to criticism from yourself. Either way, I would contend that there was not a middle class bias at the school (whatever "middle class" is). i'm sure fergie and les would be deeply upset if they knew you thought there was. In actual fact, they probably had no idea about your family background. And lets face it, gaz, you're hardly from a ghetto of urban deprivation are you? The majority of people at our school were pretty well off kids who were given every opportunity to succeed in or out of the class room. GCSEs, A-levels and a degree for most of us, even one and a half for some eh finchy ;-), if that's the only inequality of opportunity, then we don;t have a problem. I;d suggest you might like to wander into SOWETO in South Africa and tell that lot you've been oppressed. People are always bitching about our country and after three years of studying economics and politics (something I took up after I retired as an umpire) in Leeds (naturally), I can conclude that compared to most of the world we're doing OK. Sure, there are lots of problems, but our eductaion system isn;t too bad. Free for all till 18 isn;t too shoddy if you ask me. Responses on a post card please....
