Subject: Swords into Plowshares

Isaiah 2:4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Listen with your heart to the words of the Lord oh war weary people. We are a people who cannot remember a time when someone was not fighting and killing somewhere on the earth. From World War II to the present time there has been constant war. Millions on millions of people have perished at the hands of armies and despots who seem to know how to do nothing but make war. If there has been any lull in the fighting it has been to step back and prepare for the next war.

Jesus warned us with these words found in Matthew 24:6-7. "And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. "

As this is written we are currently wondering whether we will enter war with Syria. Syria, Egypt, Libya, Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq are all at war with either themselves or the U.S. led coalitions which have been formed to try to control these warring nations (or so we have been told).

Muslims are killing any and all they can regardless of nation and they don't hesitate to fight against and kill each other with such a savagery that the civilized world (if indeed any part of the world is still civilized) is appalled at the lack of any shred of compassion.

The words of Isaiah bring us hope and a longing for the time to come when our great God will put an end to all this. The rebuke of the Lord will be terrible indeed as He comes back "to do business" in Revelation 19 as "KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS".

As terrible as the judgment of God will be, the peace of God will be just the opposite. It will bring in a refreshing and wonderful time of peace the world has not known since wars started after the flood in Genesis 14. We can take hope that it won't be long until the maiming and killing are over. The AK47's and the M16's will be plowing the ground and reaping the harvest instead of firing bullets. The war colleges will close. The armies will be disbanded. There won't be any more "Tombs to the Unknown Soldier" nor will there be any more military funerals and cemeteries. The sound of "Taps" will no longer be heard across the land and no more flags flying at half staff.

As we have entered the last days take heart dear Christian. We are not appointed to wrath (1 Ths. 5:9) and as the judgment of God falls we will most certainly be at rest with Him.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
