To be precise angels and cherub(s) cherubim are not the same. You might correctly label them as heavenly beings but angels always have the appearance of men in the Bible while the cherub, as described in the bible, has some human features with animal features also.

Satan was the "anointed cherub that covereth" (Ezek. 28:14).

He appears as an angel of light (2 Cor. 11:14) but he also appears as a serpent (Gen. 3:1) and a dragon (Rev. 20:2) .

Satan probably is able to appear in many forms but in the beginning he was a cherub and God brought him down and gave him the form of a serpent and dragon.

The original calf worship is tied to the form of the cherub and it's description is given in Ezekiel 1 and Ezekiel 10.

The cherub is anything but a smooth bottomed, rosy cheeked baby with wings. He might like to be viewed that way but he would be much closer to a raging bull as far as Lucifer is concerned.
