Subject: A False Hope

Jude 1:12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

Clouds without water clouds which are not what they appear to be. To a dry and thirsty land a cloud without water is a false hope. It builds expectations but then suddenly plunges the drought stricken farmer and his land into further despair.

Government is often like a huge cloud with no water. It is full of promise but empty on delivery and when it delivers the result is often much worse than the problem it was supposed to fix. Government is carried about by the "winds" of donors and powerful special interest groups. Whichever way that wind blows is the way the politician is going to move. They hold out hope for the people but in the end the hope proves to be a false hope. There is no rain for the thirsty.

The fruit of the tree is rotten because the tree itself is corrupt and rotten. America was once a fruitful tree with good fruit for the greater part. True there was rotten fruit scattered here and there on the branches but for the greater part the tree and fruit was sound and built upon the fertile soil of God's Word. The rain of hope was abundant because God was blessing. People depended far more on God than on government. Charity began at home and in the Churches where God's people helped where help was needed. The Church was a hallowed place where one could go to find solace, comfort and hope. The motto of the Church revealed itself in the actions of the members. Those actions showed forth as "your pain is my pain and your joy is my joy". It's motivation was that of people like William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army. One Christmas he sent a Christmas card to each of the Salvation Army centers and the message contained only one word; "Others". That was the spirit of Christ working in His people. Those clouds were full of water.

Often in Churches today we find the opposite. We all to often find messages that reveal where their hearts are. They are "name it and claim it" Churches which teach a wealth gospel instead of a "deny thyself and take up thy cross daily and follow Me" gospel. (Luke 9:23) Other Churches are those who have completely compromised with the world. Homosexuality is acceptable in the laity and clergy. Abortion is not only accepted but is treated as a legitimate birth control means. Women are accepted as pastors and priests, contrary to the Word of God. All of these are wells (2 Peter 2:17) and clouds without water. They hold a false hope to go along with their false message.

There is a gospel song out that I really love to hear. It is called "My Hope is in the Lord". One stanza is "My hope is in the Lord; I will trust in Him and Him alone". He is a rain bearing cloud and a well full of pure refreshing water. Let us look well to scripture such as Isaiah 31:1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!

Egypt is a dry and thirst land and is a type of the world in scripture. We do not need to look to the corrupt governments of the world for our help. We need to look only to the Holy One of Israel. My hope is in the Lord. In whom do you put your trust and hope?

Good ones to reflect upon. Many words come to us from our leaders and people listen to them and count on them and turn away from reason for hope. Their hope was ill-founded, wasn't it? We should only trust in the Word of God, not men!

hope and trust in the Lord is never misplaced. Hope and trust in man will nearly always bring disappointment and discouragement.

Psalms 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
