Subject: Thanksgiving

Psalms 100:1-5 A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. 2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

As we enter the season of "official" thanksgiving it should give us pause for a little reflection on the goodness and mercy of our great God.

"Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands." Let's forget about "all ye lands" for the time being. Bring it down to the personal level. Do you make a joyful noise unto the Lord. As you enter your times of prayer and reflection do you coming before Him with joyful singing in your heart that bursts forth with praise? When we are in sincere and earnest communication with Him we have come before God's presence with our prayers. We are instructed in Hebrews 4:16 to "come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Does that not bring forth wondrous amazement that the One who created all things would give us permission to come into His presence with our petitions. Do we come with dread or with joy in our hearts for His permission? We not only are His people but we are His children. We have been given the rights of children from our blessed Father. Sing aloud with joy and thanksgiving.

(1)Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and (2)into his courts with praise: (3) be thankful unto him, (4) bless his name. A fourfold recipe that would bring us untold blessings if we would pursue the steps as given.

Thanksgiving! If we are without true thanksgiving in our hearts then we are not approaching our Saviour in a way that He will reward us for our humility. Yes humility. When we truly realize just what God has done for us and what He has saved us from. Think of a time in your life when you have given to someone whom you thought unthankful for your gift. Did you want to give again? Never fail to thank God from your heart. He is worthy.

Praise! Is He not worthy of our praise? Listen! The very God of glory took on flesh to pay a price we could not pay! He died for us when we deserved death. He did not quit there. He arose to sit at the right hand of the Father to ever make intercession for us because even though we are His children we still don't act like it. Revelation 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

"Be thankful unto him"! You might look at this as being the same as entering with thanksgiving as in the first example but if you think about it, uttering thanks or singing out with joy your thanksgiving, is different that showing forth your thanksgiving in actions of gratitude. When you are given you want to show thanks by giving back. Are you showing forth the giving of thanks in actions that show your sincerity? Jesus said "If you love me keep my commandments." We should remember the first commandment is to love God with every bit of our being and the second is "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. " (Matthew 22:39)

"Bless his name"! How do we treat the name of Jesus? Let's face it. We are in the first stages of the removal and banning of the name Jesus from our society. As political correctness and the courts legislating what constitutes offense we are seeing more and more claiming the name of Jesus as offensive. Allah is all right but Jesus is not. Do we proclaim Jesus outside the sanctuary or do we tone it down so as not to offend? Bless His name is the admonition. Listen. There is no greater name ever given than the name Jesus. He is our Saviour. He is our God. He is our creator. Bless His name! He has blessed us so let us bless His wonderful matchless name without fear. We may proclaim proudly that Jesus is our Lord to the glory of the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Allah, Krishna, Mohammed and all other such false gods don't even enter into the picture.
