Genesis 1:2-4 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
God is a God of order and law. Contained within the three verses above is an order of things that God decreed from the beginning. God said "let there be light". . We should notice that God did not say "let there be darkness". Why is that so? Because God did not create darkness no more than He created sin. Darkness preceded light. Darkness existed because there was an absence of light. Darkness can not exist if there is any light at all because light dispells darkness.
We can see from the above verses that God did not like the darkness. How can I say that? Well, first of all when He created the light He saw that it was good. He never said the darkness was good and secondly if God had liked and enjoyed the darkness He would not have created light. Darkness is equated with sin. John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. We see from this that the nature of God is one of light which is good and He hates the darkness wherein evil and sin is projected. 1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
If we are God's children we should share the same nature as God. What God likes we should like and what God hates we should hate. We find in our natural being and nature the nature of darkness. A person who has never come to the "Light" is in darkness. He or she was born in darkness (we all are,) and unless that person comes to the light they will remain in darkness. It is not that they choose the darkness it is simply that in their soul God has never said "Let their be light".. Just as the darkness was there when God created the darkness is also there with us as a matter of nature. Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me
Just as darkness cannot exist when there is light we see the marvellous truth that when God enters into our lives darkness is dispelled.. The Light of God dispels the darkness of sin in our soul. We then stand in a favorable relationship with God. We become children of light. Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: As children of light God does not want us returning to the darkness. That is something we are not a part of anymore.
From this we can see also that God is a God of "no middle ground". It is light or darkness. It is "hot or cold". Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. We, as God's children have no place on the fence. The devil owns the fence. Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
You can't serve God and the devil. There is no middle ground. We will be children of God or children of the devil. It is heaven or hell, saved or lost. No middle ground. God is not going to accept compromise. We are citizens of "that heavenly country" (Heb. 11:16)or we are "of the world". (Jn. 17:14) We can't have it both ways. .We are either in or out, lost or found.
"Choose this day whom ye will serve". "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord". I love the light and have accepted Jesus as the light of my life. How about you?
