Genesis 49:19-21 Gad, a troop shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last. 20 Out of Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield royal dainties. 21 Naphtali is a hind let loose: he giveth goodly words.

Next up for the blessings are Gad, Asher, Naphtali and not much can be gleaned from the passages . The Gadites were fierce in battle and when the chips were down they knew to call on God. In battle with Reuben and Manasseh against Hagarites (1 Chron. 5:18-21) it was God they called to for their strength and victory. Moses, in his blessing to the tribes said this of Gad. Deuteronomy 33:20-22 And of Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlargeth Gad: he dwelleth as a lion, and teareth the arm with the crown of the head. 21 And he provided the first part for himself, because there, in a portion of the lawgiver, was he seated; and he came with the heads of the people, he executed the justice of the LORD, and his judgments with Israel.

Moses blessing was directed more to God who watched out for the tribe of Gad than to the tribe itself. Gad knew who to put his trust in and evidently did so. The reference to the lion and lawgiver are references to Jesus Christ.

Asher's blessing speaks of riches and abundance of food. Moses blesses Asher with this blessing: Deuteronomy 33:24-25 And of Asher he said, Let Asher be blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil. 25 Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be. Herein with Asher as with the rest of the tribes we must not lose sight of the pronouncement that the blessings were for the "last days" (Gen. 49:1) All taken together it shows that Asher will be in favor with all the tribes, he will be wealthy and have strength to crush and he will "dip his foot in oil". If I were in to exploring for oil in Israel I would look at the promised land grant to the tribe of Asher and start taking the seismic readings in that area. If I were a betting man I would bet there is oil under the foot of Asher.

Naphtali is like a deer who was captive but has been freed. Boundless energy, fleet of foot and able to leap over tall obstacles. I would venture that in battle in the last days this tribe will be like a rapid deployment force or special ops people. Much of the Israeli forces today fit this description. As to his speaking goodly words. I don't know who of Naphtali might speak the goodly words but some of the most important words ever spoken came from the land of Naphtali. Matthew 4:13-17 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: 14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, 15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; 16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. 17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Who are these people who Moses has blessed? Either I've lost track of the story line, or this is setting us up for a new one.

Both Jacob and Moses pronounced a blessing on the direct descendants of Jacob.

Jacob's blessings pertained to each individual son but also as the scripture stated he was pronouncing blessings, primarily, for the "last days". Events in the days of the sons foreshadowed events of the end times.

Moses could only bless the tribes as descendants of the original sons as all the sons had died out long before Moses pronounced the blessings. His blessings had application to the conquest of the promised land and also as foreshadowing end time events in some cases.

Both blessings included "near" events and "far", or last time events.

The reason it gets confusing (to me also) is that events that happen to tribes are obscured by not knowing which tribe things are happening to. In order to get a more complete understanding one would have to trace the lineage (not always possible) of the person or persons that were involved in the events.

I don't think anyone has a real clear understanding of these prophecies because of the lack of good genealogy down through the ages.

Thank you for putting up with me, HB.
How are your Mom and Dale doing? I'm assuming they're holding their own, but just wanted you to know I have them in my thoughts and prayers.
I think we'd better pray for this country, too, don't you? Sigh... we are a nation of idiots.

Mom has improved to the point she can take a few steps with help. She still has little use of her left hand. Her mind is good and her speech is clear. I don't know that she will improve beyond this point. We pray that God will continue to improve her to the point she can walk with a walker or at least get into a wheel chair on her own or with little help.
We carried her to my youngest brother's house last Sat. for a belated 90th birthday party and it was a struggle.

Dale is on double her prednisone and it is keeping the inflammation down and therefore her fever stays down. I don't know how long she can stay on the high doses of prednisone but for now that is the remedy.

We go Thursday to Vanderbilt. Maybe they can come up with something. We're praying and appreciate your prayers.

We certainly haven't given up hoping for that miracle.

And that is good news about Mom. I hope she'll continue to gain strength back to be able to help you get her about.

I talked to Caren about coming back here--that we miss her--but she said she's not getting online much anymore, so she doesn't know when she'll make it back. Looks like it's back to being just me. Maybe Connie will remember us now that the election is over. *-)
