WHEN THE ROCKS SING

Luke 19:40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

Jesus was making his triumphant entry into Jerusalem just before His last passover on earth. He had comandeered an ass and an asses foal on which to ride into the city fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. . His disciples were going wild at the sight of the fulfilled prophecy and were crying out and shouting with loud voices proclaiming the King, the son of David. The Pharisees were chagrined at the display and asked Jesus to shut His disciples up. At which Jesus made the declaration to them that if they ceased their praise and rejoicing the very stones would immediately cry out.

Sometimes I think we fail to realize just how literal the Bible is in proclaiming these truths that God has given us. I think many believe that Jesus was speaking figuratively. I say that Jesus was stating a fact. Those rocks at the command of God would have immediately taken up the loud praise to Jesus had his disciples ceased their praise.

It is at such declarations as this passage makes that the doubters and naysayers in one accord say; "How unscientific can you get?" Let's stop and think for a minute as the statement and see if it is unscientific for voices to come from rocks. How many of you remember the "Crystal Radios" of the late 50's? I had one shaped like a rocket and it's antenna was in the nose. You pulled up the antenna and stuck the little ear piece in your and voila you heard voices and music or whatever the little crystal was picking up. Now what is a crystal but a little piece of rock.

We all remember the record players we spent so much time listening to don't we? You put the vinyl record on the post and turned it on. The arm came down and the diamond needle went into the groove and you heard the music or singing. The diamond that was vibrated was nothing more than a piece of chrystaline rock. It vibrated according to the groove and produced the sound. Glass is nothing more than melted sand which is nothing more than pieces of rock yet you can get sound from glass when it is vibrated.

Don't you know that if man can figure out how to get sound from rocks that God can go quite a bit better. Rocks can and will praise God as will all of his creation one day. Look at a few references to this glorious event.

Isaiah 44:23 Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel. Yep, the trees and mountains are going to sing out in praise to our God.

Revelation 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

Psalm 96:11-12 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof. 12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice Yes siree! They all gonna sing, shout and rejoice in the coming of our great KING.

Isaiah 55:12-13 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. 13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

Well glory. How many times have you sung or heard the Doxology sung and never really thought about what it is saying.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him all creatures here below.
Praise Him above ye heavenly host.
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Yes, the Bible means what it says. Every part of God's creation will one day break forth into singing praises to God. On that great and glorious day with Jesus arrives triumphant over death, hell and the grave their is going to be singing that will ring from earth to heaven and back again. Every part of God's creation will take part and all to the glory of our wonderful God and Savior.

Along with this thought we should see one more time that the creation will rejoice with a great shout and singing. Isaiah 14:5-15 The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers. 6 He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth. 7 The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing. 8 Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us. 9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? 11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

The only rejoicing of the earth that will be greater than this is the arrival of our Great God and King Himself. Can you imagine the great joy at these two events? When that old serpent is cast into hell and we get to witness the event we and all the creation will not be able to contain itself for the joy of seeing our accuser and tormentor being cast down. Can you imagine the unrestrained joy when our King sits down on His rightful throne? Folks I rejoice in the anticipation of witnessing these two events. How about you?

When I try to picture such joy in my mind, it's almost beyond my comprehension. Also for some reason when I was reading this I couldn't help but think of the United States and how it could certainly use such joy and optimism, like Ronald Reagan had, instead of the constant stream of doom and gloom it's been fed since his presidency and it's even worse with the current fool on the hill.

Didn't notice the "Connie Girl" in the name space above. That's what Rick in Hawaii always calls me and somehow when I typed my name "Connie Girl" came up. It's still me though....giggle!

I just took it that you were showing us you were young enough to do a cartwheel or two even though we couldn't. (grin)

I agree with your opinion of the fool in the White House. I think probably you were being charitable though.
