CHAPTER 36

Genesis 36:1-8 Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom. 2 Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite; 3 And Bashemath Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nebajoth. 4 And Adah bare to Esau Eliphaz; and Bashemath bare Reuel; 5 And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan. 6 And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob. 7 For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle. 8 Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.

Looking at this passage of scripture one can easily see that Esau was a blessed person. Even though he was outside his parents wishes and even though he had been so careless about his birthright. The wives of Esau also brought distress to Isaac and Rebekah showing the rebellion and desire to strike out and get even for wrongs; imagined or real. Genesis 26:34-35 And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite: 35 Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah. Esau takes wives of the descendants of Canaan who had received the curse from Noah. As we shall see in further study the objections to his marriages were well founded.

A close look at the two passages cited will show that the names of Esau's wives have changed as well as one of the father's.. This is not unusual at all in the Bible. Moses father in law is called Jethro in Ex. 3:1, Raguel in Nu..10:29 and Hobab in Judges 4:11. Even king Solomon had more than one name. In addition to Solomon he was called Jedidiah (2 Sam. 12:24-25). We also need not forget that Jacob is now Israel and God changed Abram's name to Abraham and Sarai to Sarah.

The family of Esau has grown so large that the land will not hold both Jacob and his family with cattle and Esau's family and cattle. Esau does the magnanimous thing and moves lock, stock and barrel to mount Seir. Notice in the first verse of the passage that "Esau, who is Edom" and the last verse (Esau is Edom). Esau's descendants are the Edomites that become mortal enemies with Israel. Not only do they become enemies but they also turn completely to idolatry. These are the people whom it is said of that God hated. in Romans 9:13. Esau the man was not hated of God and the passage above is proof that God blessed Esau with great wealth and fulfilling the prophecy to Isaac Esau that Esau will gegat nations. All of this of course goes back to the original blessing to Abraham, Isaac and even Ishmael that their descendants would become many nations.

Esau hadn't been driven away by his brother those many years before. Did God set the stage for all of this warring between nations by giving Jacob's birthright to Esau in the beginning?

First it was Esau that "ran Jacob out of town" and not Esau being chased away.

I don't think the birthright played much a part in the warring between the descendants of Esau and Jacob. We should remember that not only did Esau's descendants hate and war with Israel but also Ishmael's did.

The only way to really understand the animosity toward Israel from nearly all the nations of the world is to understand the promised "Seed" was to come from Israel. Satan has been trying to stop God's divine plan from the beginning.

Look at how other nations who were hostile to each other have reconciled. The U.S. and Japan. England and France and Germany. England and the U.S. Each of us have been mortal enemies in the past but we are reconciled and are allies and even friends today. Not so with Israel. There is an unexplainable hatred for that little nation that can only be understood from the Bible perspective.

Israel is God's chosen people. The world can't stand it. The U.S. is the only nation that has historically stood with Israel through thick and thin up to now. There are troubling signs that Satan is gaining in this area also. God help us if we turn against Israel also.

Another thing is that most of the Muslim nations are enemies of one another also. These people are violent and without reason. Iraq against Iran. Iran and Saudi Arabia are enemies. Egypt at different times has been Enemy to Syria. Syria conquered Lebanon etc.

"In case of rain the war will be held in the auditorium".

That war will be a reality in that area until Jesus puts a stop to it should never be forgotten. There will be no peace until then.

I meant when he left the first time. Guess I have to go back and read the posts about it, eh teacher? Well, I do enjoy reading when you write them, HB. I obviously have trouble remembering. That's why I'm saving everything you've written here to my hard drive, so I can go back and re-read it all again.
You'll be happy to know I at least did get the Israel connection. At least I THINK I did... 8-)
