Genesis 45:6-8 For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. 7 And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.

If the seven year famine is prophetic of the seven year tribulation period the question is do the 2 years given show us the time table for Jesus revealing Himself to Israel in the wilderness? Israel will not be like the 2 witnesses who are killed (Rev. 11:3-13) nor the 144,000 who are sealed (Rev. 7:1-8 with Rev. 14:1-5.. The two witnesses and the 144,000 wind up in heaven before the 7 years are ended but the surviving remnant of Israel will go through the tribulation unsealed. Many will be killed but many will make it to the place of refuge in the wilderness (Sela Petra?). The question is when will Jesus appear before this remnant during the tribulation and be converted. The evidence is great that this will happen. I believe that Joseph appearing to his brothers is prophetic of Jesus appearing to Israel. Just as Joseph made himself known to his brothers Jesus will do the same with Israel.

I will repeat some of the verses that show this: Ezekiel 20:33-38 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, (God's fury is poured out during the tribulation period) will I rule over you: 34 And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out. 35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face. 36 Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD. (These verses, 35 and 36, are most important. Ezekiel wrote after Israel had been carried into captivity. There has been no event in recorded history that will match this prophecy. It must be future. It is a tribulation passage) 37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant: 38 And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

In order to meet face to face with Israel God will have to reveal Himself to them just as He revealed Himself to Israel during the Exodus. Then will come to pass Isaiah 12:1-6 And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me. 2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH (Jehovah means God saves, Jesus means "Jehovah is salvation.".) is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. 3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. 4 And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted. 5 Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth. 6 Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.

In verse of the passage under study we have another tribulation verse: "And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance." The verse has a threefold application. Historically God sent Joseph to Egypt as the means by which Jacob's family, Israel, would be delivered from the famine. In the same vein it set the stage for the coming Exodus in the years to come. In type it points the way to the coming "Deliverer" who will save believing mankind from their sins and convert Israel. Prophetically it points to the great revealing to Israel of the Messiah whom they crucified. Each of us who are saved have met this great Deliverer and our deliverance is everlasting.

"So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God:" God working through sinners to bring deliverance. Not one of the brothers who sold Joseph into slavery knew that God was working through their own carnal nature and envy to bring about His will. God worked through their own free will to bring about His will. This is another mystery that is hard to grasp. This is why many believe in predestination. God moves people and sets up the scenario but each is given the free will to act on their own. The timing of Jacob sending Joseph was part of God's working. He planted the idea in Jacob acted independently. God knew when the caravan of Ishmaelites would pass the brothers way and impressed on Jacob the need to send his son Joseph so he would arrive at his brothers camp just before the traders came through. God impressed Judah to get his brothers to sell Joseph instead of kill him. Joseph's time with Potiphar and his subsequent prison term were all worked out by God. He used the lust of Potiphar's wife and Joseph's decision not to commit sin to put him in jail. God sent the dreams to the butler and the baker and the interpretation of the dreams to place Joseph in the position to answer Pharaoh's dreams so that he would wind up as Pharaoh's right hand man and be in charge of all of Pharaoh's realm and business. Truly it is mind boggling to realize all the details that God worked out and almost every detail was carried out by the free will of the unsuspecting players in this drama.

We can never know this side of glory how many times we have been willing but unknowing players in things God is carrying out today. Not one person knew what God was doing but each did what God knew they would do. Simply amazing
