It still holds true today... Parents should guide their children with as much fervor as they can while they have them with them and the children are still impressionable, because when they get away from the nest they are besieged by so many choices and temptations and once they're away, they start thinking they know more than mom and pop.
I know this lesson is a very crucial part of the Bible, but it hurts my heart for Esau. It makes me wonder if he'd have chosen more wisely if he hadn't felt rejected by his father passing his birthright to his younger brother.
I know... I over think things... grin.

While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept:

This reminds me of when my sister died at the age of 18 after being sick for three years (tuberculosis). People came to console my mother at the loss of a daughter naturally and I'll never forget my mother's reply "I grieved over her illness more than I could ever grieve over her death after watching her waste away for three years."
