In the last study we looked at the remarkable prophecy of "Daniel's Seventy Weeks." In the study we saw that 69 weeks of years (483 years) have been fulfilled leaving the 70th week to be fulfilled. This week of 7 years duration is what we call the tribulation period. We see then there is a "gap" between the 69th and 70th week.

The duration of the total time (490 years) has significance and is in harmony with God's revelation of the "Jubile" years. This is explained in the Book of Leviticus: Leviticus 25:8-10 And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years. 9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land. 10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

Seeing this explanation of the Jubile makes it easier to understand the 490 year period. This is a time marker for God. Every 50th year was to be a hallowed or holy year. Liberty to all was to be proclaimed throughout the land and every man was to return to his own possession he had inherited, even if it had been sold during the 49 years. This is but a prophetic sign as to what God has planned at the end of Daniel's 70th week when all of Israel will be given back his rightful inheritance. This "70 weeks" of years as given in the Book of Daniel will mark the end of the Jubilees as time will cease.

Daniel's "Jubile' marks the last of 4 discernible 490 year periods found in scripture. The first is marked from the birth of Abraham and spans the time of his birth to the giving of the law.. We know the call and promise was given to Abraham when he was 75 years old. In the Book of Galatians we find the rest of the time element given: Galatians 3:16-17 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. (at 75 years of age Gen. 12:1-4) He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. 17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

We see then from the birth of Abraham to the giving of the law is 75 + 430 years for a total of 505 years. This is 15 years past the 490 so how do we come to the 490 years without violating scripture. We find the answer in Genesis 16:16 And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram. Take this verse with Genesis 21:5 And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him. Here is 14 years of our 15 we are looking for. The other is in Genesis 21:8-10 And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned. 9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking. 10 Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.

Until Ishmael was cast out he was a usurper in the line to the Royal Seed which is Jesus. Ishmael would have been about 15 years old when he was cast out. In case you wonder at the young weaning age we need to reckon that Isaac could have been 1 1/ 2 to nearly two and Ishmael still be counted as a 15 year old boy. I am 64 and will be 65 in Nov. When people ask my age I tell them I am 64 although I am much closer to 65 than my 64th birthday. We need to understand that ages are rounded in the Bible just as we do today.

This then would be the first 490 year period and it shows a "gap" just as Daniel's 70 weeks does. This shows that God does not count time when His people are out of favor. God "stopped" His clock when Ishmael was born or more probably when he was conceived as this was when the usurpation of the Royal line was enacted and Abraham displeased God. This extra 9 months would bring it even closer a literal 15 year gap.

We will look at the next "70 week" period in the next study.

I find this study of the Book of Daniel fascinating. I've mentioned before that before. Correct me if I'm wrong but the seventy weeks (or 490) years which God decreed against the Jews was put on hold at the end of 483 years with the birth of Christ and the ushering in of the Church Age and the 70th week (the tribulation period) won't begin until after Christ raptures the Church which are His people.

It wasn't the birth but the triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and the subsequent "cutting off" (Dan. 9:26). The rejection of Jesus which led to His crucifixion and then the resurrection which heralded the Church age all mark the end of the 483 years.

The 70th week will be after the rapture. It will be concurrent with the tribulation. This tribulation period marks the end of the "times of the Gentiles" which started in Daniel 2. This was what Nebuchadnezzar's dream actually depicted. Notice it stands until the "Stone" which was cut out of the mountain without hands smashes the statue on it's feet. The statue stood for all the kingdoms of the Gentiles until Jesus restores the Kingdom to Israel.

Hope this makes it more clear.

I came by to re-read this study before heading out of town for my big trip to Kelso Washington, and my head is spinning! How do you get all of this from that little couple of verses? I'm so overwhelmed by you. Amazing... grin
Please hold the fort down for me while I traipse off with Charlie to see the Pacific Northwest. I'm so excited! Will probably not get online for the whole week, but will tell you guys all about it when I get back. Love you!
