Our last study looked at the time from the Exodus until the building and dedication of the first Temple which is known as "Solomon's Temple" as it was built by Solomon. These period's started with the call of Abraham and will end the return of Christ as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Each period is reckoned by God to be 70 X 7 weeks of years or 490 years. Reckoned this way each would end in a type of jubile period or 50th "year". The 70 X 7 is 10 times the time period of the regular 7 X 7 years which ended in the normal jubile on the 50th year.

A jubile year declared freedom: Leviticus 25:10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family. The first jubile period ended the servitude in Egypt. The second jubile ushered in the greatest time of peace and prosperity to Israel that it had known. The last jubile will mark the millennial reign of Christ. The jubile we are looking at in this lesson ends the 70 year captivity of the Jews in Babylon.
The time period spans from the dedication of the Temple to the Edict of Artaxerxes (Neh. 2:1-8) in 445 B.C. Larking reckons this time period to be a total of 560 years but when you subtract the 70 years of the Babylonian captivity it leaves you with the 490 years of 70 weeks of years.

It is interesting to note the rebuilding of Jerusalem took place during a time of great trouble for the Jews returning to rebuild. They had to go armed and constantly fight off those who opposed them (Neh. 4). This prefigures the time of the restoration of Israel to her own land in 1948. As soon as the Jews started rebuilding and declared nation hood they were attacked from all sides. They literally have had to rebuild with their weapons at their sides as in the days of Nehemiah.

Each 490 year period ended with the Jews being free. The last period which is the one in our study in Daniel 9:20-27.will usher in the 1,000 year reign of Christ on earth. It will be earth's greatest period of peace it has ever known. All people will be free. Jerusalem will be the "capitol" of the earth and all nations will flow into it.(Isaiah 2:2). Swords will have been beaten into plowshares (Isa. 2:4, Micah 4:3).

One other lesson we need to learn from this is that we cannot discern the times God has put in his own power. People have been trying to figure out when the Lord will return and God has said you can't do it (Matt. 25:13). Just a cursory look at the 4 time periods we have had a glimpse of shows that God counts time and marks time on a different scale than we do. Also we saw that years were described as "about" and not precisely. Only careful and diligent study of God's Word will reveal that although man thinks the chronologies in the Bible are all messed up and contradictory, they are true to the day as God has decreed.

I've been saying for several years now (even before the current economic mess) that the government should declare a Year of Jubilee! Too many people were getting in over their heads creditwise and, sooner or later, everything would crash as we see happening now and the welfare of future generations was being squandered. The Biblical admonition to "neither a borrower or lender be" was ignored as was "the borrower is slave to the lender" or someting like that.

It ain't gonna happen!

God however is about to call the jubile and all will then be glory and praise the world over.

But I guess if it gets us to being closer to Him, we'll endure it, eh? Nice to look in and see a little activity here. I'm gonna be gone again for a few days, so you two are in charge. 8-)
