Genesis 27:26-29 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son. 27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed: 28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine: 29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

The final test as to the identity of which son stood before Isaac was "the smell test". Rebekah knew her husband well and knew he would know the smell of Esau's hunting clothes. Esau was a man of the field and his clothes smelled of grass, weeds and leaves as well as possibly the smell of the game he had taken and carried back home. The first part of the blessing reflects the heart of Esau. Many nights Esau had slept in the open field where the dew of heaven would dampen everything under the starlit sky. Dew itself is a great blessing. Even when there is no rain if there is dew then the flora will receive adequate moisture to survive and grow. The fatness of the earth, corn and wine reflect successful harvests of all that the earth has to offer. This would include the animals Esau hunted for food and the vegetable life that would nurture him and his. The man so blessed was to be assured of plenty from the earth.

As the blessing was for the earth to serve Esau with abundance so also were the people of the earth to serve him and bow to him. The blessing is Messianic. Isaac intended for his son Esau to bear the birthright of Abraham's blessing from God. The ultimate aim of the blessing was the "Seed". Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. I doubt that Isaac knew who the ultimate recipient of thee blessing of Abraham was but God did. God's ways were not Isaac's ways and while Jacob was a thief in what he was doing God would still honor this blessing.

Before he was born God had pronounced on Jacob that the elder would serve the younger (Gen. 25:23, Rom. 9:12) and scripture cannot be broken. (John 10:35). Also within this prophetic blessing we see it strengthened and reinforced in something that took place in Joseph's life many years later. In the first part of verse 29 notice what is written: "Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee". Compare this with this passage in Genesis 37: Genesis 37:5-11 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. 6 And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: 7 For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. 8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. 9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. 10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? 11 And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.

The prophetic dreams of Joseph are as Jacob's blessing from Isaac. He is to be over his brethren. While this comes to pass literally in both cases the ultimate receiver of the blessings and prophecy is Jesus, the only begotten Son of God. Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

All Israel will one day bow and confess that Jesus is Lord. Every nation under heaven will bow and confess that Jesus is Lord. When Jesus rules in His Kingdom the real prophecy of Joseph's will be fulfilled. The sun (Jacob), moon (Rachel) and the eleven stars (his eleven brothers) will bow and worship. Jacob knew the immediate meaning of the dream because he identified himself, Joseph's mother and his brothers as being the ones bowing in the dream. The dream was historically fulfilled with in brothers in Genesis 44:14. It was further fulfilled when Jacob came to him in Egypt and lived under his authority as second ruler in Egypt.

"Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee." All this with Jacob and Jacob's son Joseph foreshadow the time when all nations will bow before Jesus.

Further fulfillment will be when Israel will be first among the people of the earth. You don't set a course against the nation Israel and come out a winner. Look at the middle eastern nations who daily pronounce curses against Israel. Look at their condition. They worship at the feet of a bloodthirsty God called Allah and die by the thousands as Muslim attacks Muslim. They blow each other up, cut each other's heads off and strike out against the world. "And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him;" (Gen.16:12) Great Britain as the empire the sun never set on turned her back against Israel and tried to stop the return of the diaspora and immediately went into decline. She fought two world wars and was made weaker with each war. Had it not been for her "sister" the United States, she would have fallen. Britain is not a third rate nation beset with more problems than she can begin to handle. While Mohammedanism increases, true Christianity can scarcely be found. She is set for the ash heap of history. The nation that once carried the gospel around the world and set up great missionary societies now turns her back on the God who brought her to power after the Reformation.

Can the United States of America be far behind. As we turn more and more against the "Apple of God's Eye" we are seeing more and more of the curses of other nations brought to our shores. As we start "cursing" Israel God has started cursing us. We are in a continual state of war. We have a closet Muslim for a president who, while pretending to be Christian, fights for all that will bring evil on the country and world. While he is not the anti-Christ he is as the leopard (Rev. 13:2)(albeit Kenyan leopard: Google it) who moves like a bear (communist Russia), speaks as a lion (English speaking) and the devil empowers him. (Rev. 13:2) People adored him and elevated him to an almost Messiah like position. The world seemed at his feet and he has the power of the worlds greatest military at his command. Truly the similarities to the anti-Christ are frightening but he will come to his end and he will be broken (Dan. 8:25) by the decree of God.

The blessing of God to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 has now come to Jacob and he surely was blessed. By extension the blessings fall on all Israel and she surely she shall be blessed. The curse has fallen on all who have oppressed her and the nations of today will be no exception.

It is easy to see that this nation is in danger of becoming a world power destined for the ash heap if we continue on this course. It's not like we weren't warned, eh?

and I know you are well aware of this fulfillment.

Matthew 24:32-34 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

I heard Hal Lindsey say one that that "this generation" is the generation that saw Israel restored as a nation. If that's the case, time is getting short because a lot of people who witnessed that are dying off. Your thoughts?

The fig tree is a symbol of Israel's national privileges.

Therefore if the fig tree is putting forth it's leaves it is growing nationally. I concur with Hal Lindsay and many others that the either Israel becoming a nation again or the recapturing of Jerusalem starts this generation Christ spoke of.

Which ever it is it will be during this time that the Church will be caught out. The Book of the Song of Solomon is believed by many to represent the Church and Jesus Christ. If this is true then we have confirmed the rapture is tied to the fig tree putting forth its leaves and green figs.

Song of Solomon 2:13 The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

If the interpretation of this verse is correct then you can expect the rapture to take place sometime during the late spring of the year. I believe that it will take place sometime around Pentecost in what ever year the Lord returns.

There are three trees in the Bible that arer representative of Israel. The fig represents Israel's national privileges.
The olive tree is representative of her religious priveleges and the vine of the vinyard is representative of her spiritual privileges.

...recapturing of Jerusalem starts this generation Christ spoke of.

Hadn't thought of that but I think that "the time of the gentiles is fulfilled" so it certainly could be that too.

Fascinating how you expand and exlain these things. I really appreciate it and am so glad you are here.

while technically still in effect, are coming to a fast close.

The times of the Gentiles are shown in Daniel 2 with the kingdoms of the world in Nebuchadnezzar's dream. In that vision the kingdoms last until the stone is cut out of the mountain without hands.

This show the "stone kingdom" following the gold, silver, brass, iron and clay. The stone, of course, is Jesus Christ and the everlasting kingdom starts with the Millennial Kingdom and goes on out into eternity (with the new heaven and earth) with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords on the throne.

So we are in the "clay kingdom" now. Right!

That is my belief and it is due to the necessity of that being the case because of the near return of Jesus.

If Jesus is not about to return then we haven't reached the iron and clay. I believe we are there.
