Genesis 24:62-67 And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelt in the south country. 63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming. 64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel. 65 For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself. 66 And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done. 67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

The well of Lahairoi was between Kadesh and Bered. Kadesh was about 90 miles south and a little west of Jerusalem with Bered being about 6 miles away and to the northwest of Kadesh. According to Smith's Bible Dictionary the name Lahairoi means "the well of the living". Kadesh means holy and Bered means "hail" as in to greet or call for. All three names are very appropriate to the what the occasion portends. Isaac goes out from home in the "eventide" to "meditate". One can only speculate as to what he would be meditating on but I suspect his mind was on the mission of Eliezer and what that mission would result in. Here was a young man who was unmarried in probably in his 30's. He had to be wondering what the servant of his father had accomplished. Isaac would have been filled with anticipation at the prospect of meeting his bride and the subsequent marriage. As Isaac pondered he lifted up his eyes and saw the camels in the distance. As excitement welled up in him Rebekah's eyes light on a distant figure walking toward them in the field. Excitement had to have peaked in her as Eliezer tells her it is Isaac her bridegroom. As she covered herself with a vail we can see the modesty and respect in this woman for her soon to be husband. It is revealing that she did not cover herself when in the company of the servant.

Isaac soon arrives in their company and the servant told him how God had prospered his journey and how that God had chosen this young woman for him. He would have told Isaac how as he prayed God answered exactly as he prayed so that there could be no doubt as to Rebekah being God's choice for Isaac.

The homecoming is skipped over but I'm sure their trip ended at Abraham's tent to present Rebekah to her father in law. Abraham would certainly have been pleased with the woman Eliezer brought back for his son.

The scriptures then tell us that Isaac took Rebekah into his mother's tent and consummated the marriage there and was comforted after his mother's death. The time of mourning for his mother ended with his marriage to Rebekah.

As all of this points to the marriage of Christ to His Church we may see the similarities of what has taken place with Isaac and what will take place with Jesus. The eventide will match the close of the age when darkness will befall the earth as it never has before. Isaac meets Rebekah will it is still light but night would have been falling when they met Abraham. Isaac and Rebekah met away from Isaac's home and away from Rebekah's former home. Jesus Christ will leave His home with the Father and meet His bride in the air and His bride will have left her former home far behind.

The servant Eliezer made the trip all the way with Rebekah and then presented her to Isaac. The Holy Spirit will be with us all the way in our journey until we meet Jesus to be presented to Him by the Spirit of God.

Finally at looking at the verses we see that Rebekah takes the place of Isaac's mother who has died and Isaac takes Rebekah into the tent occupied by his former mother. In this I see how that the Church as the Bride of Christ has taken the place of Israel as the wife of God the Father in this present dispensation. Another way of looking at this too would be the age of the law and sacrifice has died that room may be made for the age of grace through faith.

While Israel will be "resurrected" it will not be until after Jesus marries His "bride". As we will see in the next chapter Abraham will re-marry but all the inheritance will go to his son Isaac and by extension Rebekah will inherit all things with her husband Isaac. As the "bride of Christ" the Church will inherit all things (1 Peter 3-4, Rev. 21:7) through Christ Jesus.
