Must be royals and you need to throw one at a time until it tells you you feel drained (or something like that). You'll know when you got the life cos your stats will go all over and you'll need a restore or to wait a LONG time for them to get back to normal. You usually get a message about it being not enough of a gift if you need to toss another royal. Best to make sure you have at least 4 royals on you before even trying for another life
