Subject: The name McGinnes

My great grandfather John McGinnes was born in Dundee, Scotland, in 1839. He went to Plymouth, England, in 1856 and joined the Royal Navy and the family has been based in SW England ever since. He never emigrated or changed his family name. I am trying to trace some of his sons who were believed to have emigrated but I cannot find out which country they went to. Thet were John Alfred Charles McGinnes B.1863, James Walter McGinnes b. 1865 and Wiilliam James McGinnes B.1872. I cannot find them in passenger lists or passing through Ellis island, any help would be appreciated. I have a lot of data about this branch of McGinnes if anyone is interested.
