It is a bit disappointing that football hasn't existed at Santa Clara in over 20 years now, and I'm also a bit disappointed that Mr. Chin for some reason has no mention of my grandfather, James Johnson, in the history of the program. He was an honorable mention, and most likely should have been, an All American player during the Buck Shaw era, and he scored the winning touchdown after running 53 yards from scrimmage on an exciting trick play in the 1941 East West Shrine Game against a highly-favored East squad, yet there's also no mention of even that game. My dad still has the game ball signed by all of the West's players. He unfortunately wasn't able to play for the Chicago Bears, the dominant professional team of that era with whom he had a contract, because he was killed near the end of World War II when my dad was just two years old. Anyway, it would be great for the program to return to Santa Clara since it is steeped in tradition and was at one point one of the best in the country.
