The world cross-country championships were moved for the
second time in a week Thursday, this time to the Belgian coastal resort of
Ostend from the capital of Brussels.

On Tuesday, the March 24-25 championships were already moved away from
Dublin because of the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Britain.

The second switch was announced by the president of the International
Amateur Athletic Federation, Lamine Diack, who said not enough hotel rooms
were available in Brussels.

Diack is in Lisbon for the world indoor championships, which open Friday.

The switch came at the suggestion of the Belgian athletics federation, which
said that Ostend, Belgium's biggest coastal resort, had more hotel rooms
available, since it is off-season.

Some 1,500 athletes from 70 countries are expected to compete.
