I am not saying that it is a master plan. I am saying that looking at paterns of athletes from other Countries as well as those athletes that are getting it done in Canada. It is not really difficult to figure this out. Dont get me wrong though without a solid 1500m time the 5000m will not be any better. They in many way's go hand in hand. With regards to my own experiences to the 5000m. I have had the pleasure of working with 3 young athletes from the ontario area. One ran in the 8.30's another in the low 40's and the third in the 8.50'sduring there High School day's. All three of these guy's fall correctly into the pattern. I dont begin to think it is perfect. It is though, very attainable.

Math in many way's dictates much of our potential....Some of my ideas stem from a system of training termed multi tiered training. This is out of the British Milers Club and Seb Coe. Other aspects of the philosophy are arrived at looking at hundreds of athletes ranging in ability.it starts like this:

400m time x 2 = 800m potential
800m time x 2 = 1500m potential
1500m split time + 3.80 sec per 400 = 3000 split times
Take 3000m split time and add 2.5 sec per400 = 5000splits
take 5000m time and double it and add 1 min = 10,000 Time

ex
400 52.00 + 5 = 57 x 2 = 1.54
800 1.54 x 2 = = 3.48
1500 3.48. (61)+3.8sec per 400m = 64.8 = 8.06.00
3000 8.06.00 (64.8) + 2.5sec = 67.3 = 14.00
5000 14.00 x 2 + 1 min = 29.00
10000 29.00

An athlete that leans towards the strength a little more will be able to hit a 2.0 sec conversion between 3 and 5

so at the 64.8 sec for 8.06, he would be able to hit 66.8

66.8 for 5000m is 13.55 and 28.50 for 10,000.......

Just some thoughts for the cold winter months
