I sort of feel I have to respond to this, but I don't know how to respond without saying things that will probably put my head on the chopping block, but here goes.
Zara, please don't take this as an attack... It isn't.. I know what you do is not easy, :o) Been there done that.. I know its hours of work, I know u cant please everyone. When I had a message board I took flack for the colour of the background *LOL*.. one wanted it black another blue, another another colour.. ya can't please everyone.. I know that..
I'll start with the easiest I think to answer.. How much bashing should be allowed, and the notion that newbies would be banned if they bash pretty quickly. Foxy was banned cuz she bashed Zara?? What if she woulda bashed me? Cuz I have a few names of people who have bashed me over n over again .... Ya gotta have thicker skin if ur gonna run a chat room, sorry.. Look at the source and figure out how much merit u award to the comment... I would think Zara wants chatters to come to the room to chat, not to like her.. As for liking the room or not, I've heard others say things on icq, yahoo, email, etc.. ya want names cuz they are bashing behind ur back?? I have said it isnt as fun as 'old' chat. In blowout there were no rules, and we fought, and we had the drama and we went our separate ways, and some of us still chat, and ya know what? It wasn't a bad place.. Newbies came and went, bashed, flooded, yadda yadda.. they weren't banned.. they werent even kicked.. we even learned to laff at them..AND it was linked to a sex pic site with some pretty FAR OUT ideas on erotic.. so we got some pretty interesting newbies....
As for the /silence command. It doesn't work because people don't use it. If 3 out of 10 people use it and the other 7 people choose to complain n complain n complain then ur right it disrupts the room, but it isn't the flooding/bashing that disrupts, its the people bellyaching. If you ignore the problem person they get bored or they laff amongst themselves, but again consider the source of laughter.. I personally think I'd ban the flooding if it was crashing the room before I'd ban a person... I don't get the whole flooding thing, so I'm probably not the best person to speak on this.. I think its stupid to say someone's name 10 times when u enter the room... my opinion.. i dont hate anyone for it.. i just think its stupid :o)
I think the only thing I havent 'defended' is asking to be banned. I don't know if I can defend that, lol, OK so she's stupid... you are right, why say it if 2 mins after it happens you cry to come back.... perhaps she realized she likes the room more than she thought :o) I would think that is a compliment to Zara.. I think it would have been as effecient to say if u dont like it u r free to leave n dont let the door hit ur ass on the way out.. if ya dont leave then i'll take it as a compliment that u do like the room :o).. again cool heads prevail.. she was baiting whoever banned her, and she had that person hook line n sinker.. who is the bigger person??
Another point, you made, boomer, is.. zara puts sooo much time into the room. You are right, but part of that is her doing and the other part is her doing. :o) (that wasnt a typo) It is a volunteer position... now don't assume I'm not greatful or appreciative... but you learn in these worlds that if its too much or if something stops working dont worry, someone will jump right in to take over for ya.... i had a pic site/webboard for blowout, woody had a pic site for blowout, lilbit had one for here, zena had this webboard, i know zara does the picsite & im not sure who does this. It really is only as much work as you want to put into it. No one forces you to do it, you do it because you want to.
As far as filling the room, it isn't happening by dividing the room. don't take everyones battles as your own, they arent... and your own battles should be handled the same as by those of us who don't have 'power'.. the same as u would in junior high, ignore those who annoy you and try and play nice.
I have a question, which is maybe one you wont come up with the same answer as me to.. Do you think if Zara was to deop everyone including herself and let the room run at will it would die out? Every room I have ever chatted in died out because the server crashed, not because the chatters killed each other.. look at us rally when a room does crash to keep everyone together..
Do you think KSJO & Foxy are important enuf to peeps to leave chatting with friends who they have known for years? I'd guess no, but banning and room control is.. its happened..
I guess the answer i got from Boomers post was that the room is not ours, it is Zara's. I'm not sure if that was well explained at the beginning of this room formation.. read the post below about HARD having ESP... it says alot... It felt like home (though I have been only visiting for short periods for most of the last 3+ years) but if its someone else's home and I'm just a visitor, thats a new perspective to me.
I apologize if I upset anyone, and I'm sure you will never agree, boomer... I'm not trying to sway your opinion.. only to let you know even being an informed observer.. my observations havent changed.. I still think the ban is wrong..
