Subject: Fun day at work

So I stopped by a co-worker's desk yesterday to ask how she'd done after the blood drive last week, because I had seen two people pass out and still had a bruise from it myself. We chatted about that for a bit, then I asked to see her watch. I had been admiring it from afar for quite some time and was fairly sure it was a Baby-G, but I wanted to take the opportunity to find out for sure.

Well, she showed it to me of course, and then quite unexpectedly launched into a *very* lengthy explanation about what a great watch it was and how after four years of abuse from her very active lifestyle it was good as new except for a slight discoloration of the band. She even showed it to me up close so I could that the markings on the face hadn't faded.

At this point I would've felt pretty silly letting on that I already know all about Baby-G watches and had just wanted to see hers, so I played dumb and started asking about it in detail.

Boy, was THAT ever worth it! I asked her what features it had and got to see it up close several more times as she showed me things like the protective bars over the face and the indiglo backlight.

I then asked how much they went for and if she knew where I could find one. Apparently she bought hers while on vacation in Hawaii but said they should be available from most department stores and that I would want to look for a G-Shock instead of a Baby-G because they were bigger and more "manly." She then told me how she really wanted to get another one but couldn't bear to part with hers while it was still running, almost lamenting that it showed no signs of dying after four years.

I've been thinking about purchasing a G-Shock for some time anyway, especially since I know I could loan it to my wife and she'd wear it, so I think this is my cue.

I figure I can stop by my co-worker's desk to show it to her and thank her for the advice and recommendation, then innocently point out that it doesn't look *that* much bigger than hers (she has tiny wrists so even a Baby-G looks huge).

I'm probably not lucky enough that she would put it on next to hers to show me the difference, but you never know. I sure didn't expect more than "Oh, it's a Baby-G" and a 5 second glance at it out of my initial comment.

Annoying as the butchering of my arm was, I suppose I shall have to thank my friends at the Red Cross next time they have a blood drive in my building. =)
