Well, I went and got my G-Shock at lunch today. I don't recall the model number offhand, but it's one of the newer ones with a solar battery. I didn't realize that until after I had left the store, but it should be kind of cool since I'm lazy about changing watch batteries. I just hope the solar receiver is sensitive, because I don't spend much time outside in natural sunlight.

Later on I stopped by to thank my new friend for her advice and show her the watch. We had a short chat during which I tried pointing out that my G-Shock didn't look much bigger than her Baby-G to see what would happen.

Well, it *almost* worked, but not quite how I had hoped. I held mine out hoping she would either put it on or hold it next to hers on her wrist. Unfortunately, she was already loosening the strap on hers and simply held it up next to mine. Oh well, I tried. When we compared the two, however, I was quite surprised to see that mine really was just a tiny bit bigger. Apparently older Baby-G models were quite a bit larger than the newer ones currently in stores.

I played dumb again and asked if she could show me how to set the time (I didn't actually know yet anyway) and how to turn on the backlight ("Oh! I thought that big G thing was just for decoration."). That prompted her to mention that the backlight on her watch had *just* stopped working and a new battery didn't fix it like she hoped, so she would finally have to break down and get a new one.

Well, as luck would have it, I purchased mine at the mall a few miles from the office and most of the stores that carried Casio watches had them on sale. I helpfully pointed this out and she thanked me for the tip and hinted at going to get one during lunch over the next day or two.

To be continued...

Phase 3 - "The G-Shock is great so far and I really like how your Baby-G looks. Would you let me go with you to get your new one and help me pick one out for my wife?"

Wish me luck! :-)
