Chapter 77
Lams and Krys sat in the car outside Des’ house, his hand was in his head, he felt so stupid, one mistake could probably cost him his relationship with Des. Krys sat beside him
Krys: You Okay Lams?
Lams shot her an angry look
Lams: What do you think? If this gets out, I’ll be ruining my relationship with Des, yours with Talib, my life is almost over.
Krys: So what should we do?
Lams: This stays our little secret
Krys: Okay
Lams: Y’know what, I’mma take you home cos right now I can’t think
He drove her home in silence
Krys got out of the car
Krys: I’m so sorry Lams I never intended for this to happen
Lams gave a weak smile
Lams: Its not entirely your fault afterall it takes two to tango
Krys: I’ll see you later
Lams: Yeah sure, bye!
He made sure she got in before he drove off. He drove home and went straight upstairs. He had really f***ed up badly this time, and he’d never kept a secret from Des since they’d been together, he just hoped this time she could not read his mind.
Tyra heard the doorbell to her house ring and she thought it was her aunt who’d left her daughter’s rattle behind, so she picked it up from the top of the TV and ran to the door. She opened the door to find that it was Tony standing at the door. She gave him a very dirty look
Tyra [irritatedly]: Whaddaya want?
Tony: How are you doing my ebony princess?
She looked at him like he was insane
Tyra: No seriously what can I do for you?
Tony: First of all can I come in?
She eyed him suspiciously and then stepped aside for him to enter, she thought of sticking her foot out for him to trip over but she decided against it.
She showed him the way to the den and both of them sat down facing each other
Tyra: So what can I do you for?
Tony: First of all, I wanna apologise for acting like a real jerk and for acting a fool earlier, and I brought you this
He mysteriously produced a single red rose from behind his back and handed it to Tyra who took it
Tony: I was going to bring a whole dozen for you, but no bunch really struck me as good enough for you, and in a way its symbolic because out of all the girls I coulda had or already had, you Tyra are the only one who stood out in my mind as being special and unique, just like that red rose you’re holding
Tyra looked at him and for a second could not believe this was the same Tony who treated her like a doormat and now he’s spouting all this floetry? She didn’t want to believe him and he could see it in her eyes
Tony: I know I screwed up the first time but Tyra I’m not kidding now, you’re the one I want now and always, I’d really like it if you gave me a second chance
She looked at him- might as well, it couldn’t be any worse than she’d been during the past couple of months can it?
Tyra: Okay then, a second chance, but if you don’t act right then its over.
Now it had been a couple of months and by now, Krys had told Lib she was having his baby and Lib was naturally over the moon, now they could become a family. Tony and Tyra were a couple, and Des was still not aware of what was going on. Krys’s bump was already showing and she’d even gone for her first scan with Lib in tow. Lami had not had a proper night sleep since he found out he was the father of her baby. Des knew something was wrong with him but he hadn’t said anything, just that he was overly affectionate and kept telling her every 5 minutes he loved her so much.
Well, one day, Des invited Lib over so they could hang out, they were watching TV
Lib: It’s been a while since I’ve hung out with you, its really nice that we can be friends again
Des: I know, life’s too short to stay mad at each other
Lib: I hope you know I’m sorry for what I did to you and Lams
Des: I know, your actions were wrong but your heart was in the right place, you were protecting what was yours, its just that the means you used were over the top.
There was silence for a while
Des: So how’s Ms. Mommy doing?
That was what Des called Krys
Lib: She’s fine, she’s been getting some strange cravings though
Des: What do you mean?
Lib: Ok, like when she was first pregnant, everytime she stayed over at my house she was always asking me to make her a sandwich with marmite, butter, with French fries in between and serve it with pickled onion water
Des: Ewwww, are you sure she’s having a baby for you or Lami, cos it sounds like something Lami would eat
Both of them laughed
Lib: I know! Its weird ain’t it? Now she likes chewing on rubber
Des: OMG!
Lib: Do you know how many rubbers I have lost lately? I keep buying more but Krys keeps chewing them up
Des laughed
Des: Don’t worry she’ll grow out of it, at least you’re lucky she doesn’t chew your money or your carpet then you really need to see someone
Lib and Des laughed
Lib: Des you so crazy!
Lib left Des after a while and she called up Lami
Des: Hi baby how are you?
Upon hearing her voice he froze
Des: Lami? Lami?
Lami: Oh sorry I didn’t hear you initially, my connection was bad. How are you doing?
Des: I’m good, what you been up to?
Lami: Nothing, had some paper work to catch up on for my mom, and you?
Des: Lib just left, we were just chilling nothing much
Lami: Oh okay then how is he?
Des: He’s okay. So do you wanna come over, I’m all alone and mom’s not at home
Lami: I’ll see if I can come
Des [a little disappointed and angry]: Oh okay then don’t worry I’ll be fine by myself. Lami I know you’re lying and hiding something from me okay? So until you can be straight with me, don’t come over at all okay?
And before he could respond she cut the phone off. As soon as Des dropped Lams’ phone beeped indicating he had a voice message. He listened to it
Voice Message: Hi Lami its me Krys, thanks for coming with me today to the doctor’s and for going shopping with me, I really appreciate it. I’ll meet you in front of the mall parking lot in half an hour’s time okay? Bye!
Des was fuming at her house, when the phone rang. She thought it was Lams and was ready to shout at him when she heard a female voice
Des: Hello?
Person: Hi is this Des?
Des: Who’s asking?
Person: Its me Ella
Des was surprised, Ella was one of her closest friends in grade school and they hadn’t spoken in ages
Des: Ella? OMG long time! How have you been you cutie pie you!
Ella laughed
Ella: I am good girl, how’s it been? What you been up to?
Des: Hmm where do I start? I’m getting ready for college which is going to be good once I get there and ummm I wrote you about my boyfriend Olamide didn’t I?
Ella: Oh the dude with the strange name?
Des laughed
Des: Its not strange, its an African name
Ella: Whatever, so what’s up with you two?
Des: We’ve been okay except for the past couple of months
Ella: Why?
Des: He’s been kinda avoiding me lately for some reason
Ella: Hmm I wonder why. Oh by the way, why ain’t you call me and tell me you’re dropping a Des Junior soon
Des: What? Ella what you talking about?
Ella: C’mon girl don’t act innocent, remember Kiana who went to your Junior High school? She works at the Mount Sinai Memorial Hospital as a candy striper and she said she saw your boyfriend with a chick who looked like his girlfriend as he was cuddling her and acting like most new soon to be fathers. Yeah she said something about the guy introducing himself to the doctor as the father of the unborn baby, so girl give, when is the baby due?
Des by this time was in shock. She put two and two together to realise what was happening
Des [her voice had gone quiet and she was in shock]: Ella can I get back to you on that? I gotta go now
Ella: Sorry I didn’t mean to upset you
Des: No its okay, someone’s at the door, I’ll call you later
Ella: Okay then Des, bye!
Des didn’t even say bye before she cut off. She went into shock and fainted
