Chapter 49
When Lib heard the news, he began shaking so bad. He knew this time, he had gone too far and if anyone ever found out about what he did, it would take God himself to make them forgive him. He’d let his jealousy get to him so bad and had succeeded in hurting two of the most important people in his life- his girl and his best friend; and brought them together. He began dialling, his hands were so unsteady.
The phone rang at Jiz’s house. Jiz was still reeling from the shock news and managed to muster enough energy to pick up the phone and answer it
Jiz: Hello?
Person: Did you hear the news?
Jiz: Yeah Lib I did. Cat’s still crying, Mal just called telling me the same about Jackie who just passed out
Lib: Oh My God! So what do we do now?
Jiz: Don’t know about you, but Cat and I are getting up and heading for the hospital
Lib: I’ll meet y’all there then
Jiz: K then bye!
Lib: Bye!
And as Lib put down the phone, he began to feel even worse. What had set out to be a warning to Lams to stay away from his girl, had ended up affecting the whole crew. He had to get to the hospital.
At Jackie’s house. Jackie was still out of it. She was crying and Mal was trying to pull her up.
Mal: J, c’mon lets go
Jackie: I can’t believe this happened. To Lami and Des? What did they ever do to hurt anyone? All they wanted to be was just happy, that’s all! Why? Why? Why couldn’t they be left alone?
Mal: I know baby, but get up now, lets go to the hospital
Jackie (getting up, and angry): I bet your boy Lib is behind all these. No one would’ve grassed on Lams but cos Lib was jealous of Lami and Des, he’d probably do it
Mal: Girl that’s crazy talk! Even Lib wouldn’t be that spiteful!
Jackie: Uh-uh
At the hospital, they managed to rush Lami and Des into the ER and do operations for them. They had to use a stronger anaesthetic to sedate Lami who was only worried about Des not himself. Des however had regained some consciousness on the way to hospital, but sedating her wasn’t as hard as Lami’s. the operations took time, as they had to be careful not to damage anything else and to give them both a greater chance of full recovery. There were camera crews all around the hospital hoping to get a scoop on who these two were, and why the incident happened. Turns out that none of the guys involved were caught, even though the police had an idea it might be CVG. But those guys were slick, they got away with it. at least now they’ve taken care of Lami, and he was taken off their wanted list. They had better things to do than to be worrying about what an ex-member was doing.
Des’ mom within hours of hearing had flown back home and straight to the airport. Lami’s mom also heard and she was on her way. When Des’ mom got to the hospital, it was like dealing with a celebrity. The press were hounding her and she had to literally fight her way through the press people who wanted a piece of the action. Her child was hurt bad and all these Rottweilers could think of was her child as tomorrow’s headlines about the demise of today’s youth!
The hospital people quickly directed her to a private waiting room used for families with serious cases such as these. Des’ mom [Annette] was praying and crying and just trying to gain some control over her emotions, but it wasn’t really working. Here she was a high powered lawyer and all, who was tougher than nails in boardrooms and the courts, but society managed to hit her one soft spot- her baby, Des. Why?
She’d been there for what seemed like a while and another lady walked in. A little older than her, she looked haggard and tired. She looked closer at her and sensed it was the other boy’s mother, Lami.
Diane walked into the private waiting room only to find a slightly younger woman there who looked as pained and awful as she herself did. One look at her, she knew it was Des’ mother.
Diane: Is Des your child?
Annette: Yeah. You’re Olamide’s mother right?
Diane: Yeah
And as if on cue both began crying again
Annette: I don’t know what happened and why it did, but why did they have to get hurt, over nothing?
Diane: I know, I hope they both do fine
Annette: They will. The doctors here are real good.
They kept on talking and realised that both had a lot in common, and through their pain, they found what hopefully would be a successful friendship.
Meanwhile, Cat and Jiz, Mal and Jackie and Lib were on their way, Krys had found out too and was coming too, Tyra, Cashmere and Mia also headed to the hospital. Cat and Jiz got there first and the others followed. All of them ended up in the private waiting room with Annette and Diane who now had the duty of keeping everyone from crying, shaking, or passing out. The nerves were so bad that a nurse was stationed outside the room incase any thing got out of hand.
The surgeons in the hospital tried really hard to save both Des and Lami. For operations that seemed easy and a by the book procedure, these two proved to be exceptionally difficult. They eventually did, and removed the bullet in Lami’s leg and patched him up, Des’s bullet also came out even though initially it felt like the bullet was lodged in so hard it didn’t want to come out. The surgeons did well that when both healed, there’d be nothing but little tiny scars to show where the hurt was.
After what seemed like hours, a nurse was sent to inform everyone in the waiting room that the operations were successful, they had been put in a private recovery unit, for stable conditions. The news washed over everyone with so much relief that the tears flowed even more. The nurse smiled and told them that they cannot see them for at least the next hour while they are tidied up and sorted out properly.
Annette: Thank you nurse, thank you so much
Nurse: You don’t have to thank me, it’s the surgeons who deserve the credit. And those children? At one point the doctors thought Des was going to die as her heart rate fell at one point, but somehow she managed to hang on and is now stable. Lami also gave his surgeons a little hassle but it is ok now.
Diane: Thank you so, so much.
And she began to cry. If anything, she decided she was going to change and make a woman out of herself, if not for herself, but for her baby.
Eventually, they were allowed to go in and see them, as long as they were very quiet.
Des and Lami were sleeping when they all came in. Each mom instinctively went to her own child, and the rest of them sort of divided into guys and girls, meaning that Jackie, Cat, Krys, Tyra, Cashmere and Mia stayed at Des’ bedside initially, while Jiz, Mal and Lib went over to Lami’s at first. Then the switched places. No sooner had they, that a nurse came in to tell them they had to leave, but could come back tomorrow when visiting hours start.
Annette: I think I’ll stay here with Des and Lami, you all go on home
Diane: No, you go home. I’ll stay
Nurse: I’m sorry but neither of you can. I suggest you both go home, get some rest and if you want come to the hospital earlier than visiting hours and we could make an exception for you all and let you come in and see them.
Cat: Does that include us all?
Nurse: Yes sure.
Cat: Thank you
They all left after saying goodbyes to the Moms and it was Diane and Annette left
Annette: Diane, why don’t you come over and stay at my house, it’ll be easier for us, and plus I’m not sure whether you have made any other sleeping arrangements while you’re in town, this being so sudden and all
Diane: Thank you, Annette, that would be fine
Annette: And since we plan on being friends, you can call me Ann
Diane: And you can call me Di
Outside, the crew was still outside i.e. Jiz & Co and Cat was talking
Cat: Who’s coming tomorrow?
Mal: All of us no doubt right?
Everyone nodded
Cat: Okay then. So should we meet here at 11am?
Tyra: Yeah sure, I don’t see why not
Cat: Okay then. See y’all back here okay?
Everyone hugged/boy hugged and got into their respective cars and went home.
That’s it for now, will be doing chapter 50 as well, so expect that soon. I ain’t heard from Angie for a while so rather than keep y’all hanging, I’ll handle it until she’s back
