Tarkin shakes his head in amazement and laughes softly.

"It's a long story...." he says finally able to speak. "I met your mother quite sometime ago at this castle I used to watch over. We were... friends, I guess. She was gone a lot but I used to see her often enough."

The ranger sighs wistfully remembering the days when his life was simpler and he hadn't carried so many burdens.

"When you were very young your mother was staying at the castle when she was attack by the twin brother of a small dragon that was also there. She fell into a river and was carried off. The dragon's brother, Pukerat, and I decided to raise you until I saw one of your parents again... it was quite sometime but eventually your father stopped by the castle and while I would've rather returned you to your mother but Fate rarely seems to work in my favor..."

He suddenly smiles widely, "Well you certainly have grown... now tell me what this note is about. I swore I'd protect you when Pukerat and I took you in and though I'm sure you don't need my protection I'm still giving it. I owe it to your mother...."
