Does anybody know where I can get that ribbon? Does anybody have a broken/severely damaged Zire71 so I can get that ribbon from it?

Technical Question.

If I want to power my palm vx from 12V supply (in an glider) do I need the charging electronics, or can I just supply the palm vx with the same voltage as the desktop cradle (4.1V)?

OR to put it another way, does the palm vx have the charge controller for the lithium battery fitted internally?

Thanks

Wall Street Journal Sunday Review of online PDA software markets by Kelly Spors named PDATopSoft among the most popular download websites.

Here is the article text:

Follow the Money
With PDA Software
By KELLY K. SPORS
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
As hand-held computers get more sophisticated, so does the software that accompanies them.
Many Web sites now sell downloadable applications for PDAs and cellphones that can help you manage your money -- from tracking investments and logging inventory for insurance purposes to calculating expenses and storing personal passwords and account numbers.
The software, usually tailored to a specific device, can cost anywhere from $2 to more than $100. Some software can be tested for a week or a month before you commit to purchase it. Here's a sampling of some popular sites:
Handango
www.handango.com
Handango sells the broadest array of software -- more than 35,000 different programs -- for personal handheld devices. It's also the leading seller of downloadable software for mobile phones. The site lets users browse through software options based on the device's operating system. Users can also view lists of the best-selling and newest finance applications.
PDATopSoft.com
www.pdatopsoft.com
This Web site sells many of the same programs for PDAs and cellphones as other sites. Users can view life-size images of what the programs look like before they buy them. Developers can sign in and register to sell their software on the site. And customers on the site can read and post reviews of software they try.
PalmGear
www.palmgear.com
PalmGear may be the best site for people looking for Palm-based software. The site sells only Palm software, with more than 19,000 downloadable applications. It also displays lists of the most popular downloads. And it sells e-books.

I have been using a Visor de Luxe since a few months after its release and I love it. It's display isn't coloured, okay, but actually I don't care much about it. What I do care about it is it's delicious USB hotsync. Since I upgraded my PC to Windows XP I couldn't sync it anymore. Lucky me I have a IBook too so I sync it there, but, hey, I wan't to sync on my PC. Anyone knows what's the problem? I did a mistake, I confess. I installed the old Palm Desktop (for Visor) software on XP and tried to sync (how could I know it wasnīt compatible?). After several failures I contacted Handspring and they told me about the new software and said I had to uninstall the previous client and install the new one. I did it, with no results at all. I talked to them again and all they said was remove and reinstall. I did it more times than I'd like to confess. Anyone have any idea whatīs wrong?

This is an idea I have been circulating, in hopes of finding the technical data I need.

Being something of a hardware hacker, I was inspired by an "Add Ons" topic elswhere on the net about Lithium Ion batteries.

I propose a modification to the m125 replacing the AAA batteries with the Lithium Ion pack designed for the m130, and further modifying the m125 to accept a charge through the Universal Connector.

Why "m127"? Because, it doesn't make it an m130, it just gets it a little closer! :D

Also, the m125 has got to draw less power, meaning longer running time, in theory anyway.

I am asking for anyone with photos or specs for the m130 battery and/or m125 specs to e-mail me. Of course I need to find out what to connect where on the UC as well.

I would also like the mod info to be free to all.

April 1, 2003 - UTrackSys.com, LLC released UTS Blood Pressure version 1.2. UTS Blood Pressure for Palm OS allows you to track your blood pressure and pulse. It offers various interactive charts, reports, filters, and abilities to export data to UTS database and to MS Excel through UTS conduit.

http://www.utracksys.com/plugins/blood_pressure/

The close interaction with our users via polls and interviews shows that most of them run UTS Blood Pressure on color devices. No surprise, they want to have more control over the color schema of the program. New version 1.2 gives the users ability to customize the colors of the charts, histograms, graphs and fonts. Now you can get the maximum from your Palm.

Another important feature will be useful for those who use UTS Blood Pressure conduit to create reports in the Microsoft Excel and then analyze it with their physicians. Now during HotSync UTS Blood Pressure automatically creates blood pressure and pulse charts in the MS Excel file along with reading table. Just attach the file to the e-mail and send it to your doctor. Clear, easy and fast!

Several other little, but nice features were also embedded into the new version.

Can the Palmlll folding keyboard be used with any of the current models, or are there any adapters out there? I want to upgrade my PDA, but I like the keyboard and it seems a shame to toss a perfectly functional accessory in the garbage and buy a new one which offers no improvement over the old.

Can anyone give me an idea of actual useful time on a given charge for the Palm M500 black & white models? I am looking to upgrade to a new model and would like to know. What about the Color M500 series palms?
Has anyone had a lithium battery actually wear out on the Palm M500 series. Are you just out of luck?

Has anyone knowledge of what happened to BAEN Books Website?

This company has been around for a good number of years (pre-internet).
They sold 'Web-Scriptions' to science fiction ebooks (along with actual books). You paid for a group of books and downloaded them to your palm. When you were finished reading they were deleted from your Palm. Baen kindly maintained your e-library and you could add to it or download from it anytime.
(No need to save them on your hard drive!)
It was the best ebook business I've used. No hard to implement locking codes etc.
Suddenly they are gone. Any information will be appreciated.

UTS 1.3: What can we track for you?

October 1, 2002, UTrackSys.com, LLC released of Universal
Tracking System version 1.3 for Palm OS. UTS allows you
to trend any value that can be measured: time, expenses,
calories, body weight and even catch of fish.

This summer UTS burst into the market of "must-have"
software for Palm OS. Constantly being improved according
to user wishes UTS became a perfect alternative for the
swarm of one-purpose trackers that are usually slow and
inflexible enough.

Lex B. (Netherlands), UTS user since version 1.0, testifies
- "Nice clear graphs. Very flexible by the two-tier system
of matters and targets. Ability to choose different time
scales. I like the speed and the 'purge' facility. Before,
I was using a number of different timers, expense programs,
graphing programs, etc. Most of these were very sluggish,
and old values had to be deleted one by one."

Now it's clear why many people prefer Universal Tracking
System: you install only one program and get several in fact.

New release has new features that make the work with entered
values as simple as stylus is. We also have added the
full-blooded support of national date and time formats. But
the real jewel of new release is the Spanish version of UTS
that has user interface and manual fully translated into
Spanish language.

I'm thinking of upgrading to an m515 from my current m105, but the prospect of a rechargeable battery both interests and worries me. At the moment, when my m105's batteries run flat, I put recharged NiMH AAAs in it, and its back up ready for another few weeks. Even if my NiMH sets are flat, I can usually just walk down to the shop and buy some new AAAs. However, with a built-in battery, the only way you can charge it is to put it in it's cradle or buy a portable/emergency recharger, and this concerns me slightly. I use my m105 whenever I want, without worrying about current battery state.

If you have a rechargeable handheld, is the built-in battery more of a feature or an inconvenience? Have there been any times where you wish your Palm would use 'normal' batteries?

UTS 1.2: Users keep their Palms under the pillows

August 27, 2002, UTrackSys.com, LLC released of Universal
Tracking System version 1.2 for PalmOS. UTS keeps tabs on
anything that can be measured: time, expenses, calories,
body weight and even catch of fish.

We are pleasantly surprised with a fact that UTS software
users found many spheres of its applying. We have never
imagined some of them before. People use UTS to track
their blood pressure, sales, pets, customers, and doses
of radiation. One of the UTS addicts even tries to track
his sex duration time and "my wife was puzzled a bit when
spotted my m505 under the pillow"
- he wrote.

Our support team analyzed all user feedback and included
the most common examples of UTS usage in the e-brochure
"UTS in practice: live examples of tracking". You can
download this document from our website for free. We
intend to update it regularly adding new examples of
tracking with UTS in each new issue.

Changes and updates in version 1.2 are made also
considering user desires. New version offers additional
features for more flexible analysis of tracking results.
Moreover, we expanded the database customization options
and enlarged built-in help system.

What software do you think of when you think of tracking?
Many people think of Universal Tracking System.

To the gentleman who claims that Palm software is too expensive:

Wake Up!

Have you purchased any software for a PC from Microsoft?

Palm Software is priced so affordably that you can purchase whatever you need. Even the cumulative cost is affordable over time. Also most vendors give free upgrades or upgrades at a reduced cost.

A lot of work goes into making a good product. After deducting the selling costs they probably get very little. (like the difference between what you pay at the market and what the farmer gets for producing it!)

If it was all free we wouldn't have such a great bank of well designed and implemented software.

By the way, I am not a Palm developer, rather I'm a satisfied user.

UTS 1.1 for PalmOS: tracks everything
-------------------------------------------------------

August 2002, UTrackSys.com,LLC announces the release of
Universal Tracking System version 1.1 for PalmOS
- an application that turns your handheld device into a
multi-purpose logging tool.

While other one-purpose programs track only energy
waste, fat consumption, or medicine usage, with UTS
you can track any measurable value of your life: money,
weight, calories, time, and many more.

Remove other trackers from your Palm and install UTS
that supports all their functions and provides you with
many other unique features.

By logging only one matter, you can track unlimited
number of target values linked to this matter.

UTS tracks simultaneously as many overlapped events as
you need even when the Palm is turned off or you are
working with other applications.

The different types of statistics, sophisticated system
of measurement units, and various charts allow you to
analyze tracking results in many variants.

Moreover, you can download free pre-packed databases
from UTS site and edit them according to your needs.
You can also create and edit your own databases both
on Desktop and on PDA.

New version 1.1 has extended user interface that allows
users to manage their UTS data and settings both quickly
and easily.

Everyone who uses PDA finds UTS an essential tool!

THOUGHT: What I want from the next Palm handheld - Sammual (webmaster)

I have been taking a look at the photographs and comments on PocketPCThought about what many are saying will be the next new Palm model. I do not know if it is true or not, however what do you want the next Palm handheld to be able to do for you? For me personally the ability to be able to send word and excel document easily by email, using bluetooth capabilites would be nice. Having to hot sync to my PC is fine but it can be a pain, especially if I wish to send something in a hurry. The size of my 505 is fine, however it would be great if they extended the Palm.net service to the UK so that we could have 'always on' notification over here in Europe. Anything else? Not too sure however I will have a think and in the meantime I have set up a forum piece on the matter, so ask yourself:

As some you may know, I am a complete newbie at this Palm stuff but an enthusiastic one at that! Friday, after thinking about how much I like my Palm, I decided to take the plunge and buy some stock in Palm.Glad I did. Not only was it the first time I ever bought company stocks, but for some strange reason, I felt very good about doing so. I figured that since I really, really, really love my Palm, it would be a good idea to buy some stock in Palm. 1) it shows support for a superior PDA OS 2) it sticks it to the bin ladens of the world and 3)if not us who are Palm addicts, then who? (my apologies if my views on bin laden offends anyone...but that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!)

This is such a great technology and everyday I find something new that helps me expand the possibilities with my Palm. Most recently, I went to a star party with my astronomical observing group. The Palm and the 3rd party planetarium software that I got was wonderful! Yes, I still used my star charts, but what was nice was that I could leave the star charts on the table and have my Palm at the eyepiece with me. A very useable integrated system.

Any way, I shan't bore you all anymore...just wanted to share some Palm thoughts with you.

Best, Stacy

My first Palm was an m105 and just a few weeks ago, I bought an m515. I love it. My thought was with all of the available freeware/shareware out there, how does one draw the line on whether or not to download them because of memory purposes? I seem to like just about 75% of all that I see available. I guess you could say that this is a good problem. Just wanting to hear anyone elses thoughts on the matter. P.S. I have a system I've been using for over a year now. I wonder if anybody else does this? I keep a handy little Panasonic RR-QR240 digital recorder in my shirt pocket to record up to 4.4 hours of voice notes. Usually after using about 30 minutes of it, I use my folding keyboard to transcribe all these voice notes directly into the Memo section of my Palm. After typing all these there, I can easily move each item into the ToDo's or Addresses or to whichever section of my Palm they fit best. This works great because some of my best ideas come to me while I'm driving and many notes would be missed if I had to write them down. (But now I have about 1600 ToDo's and ouch! Am I busy or what!)

THOUGHT: Are we too Palm obsessive? - Sidonie Harding
We spend so much time 'tweaking' our Palm handhelds that there is little time to use it. Well, maybe thats a slight exaggeration but it's not far off. I'm just as guilty, trailing through the internet pages looking for the latest software that I've yet not tried. But is unhealthy to have such an obsession? Well, I personally think not. I am just adding to the investment that I have made. I want to get the best out of my Palm and by checking through the reviews of Palmgear I am doing just that. I do need to cut down. I think on average I spend around 2 hours a night going through Palm websites. In the daytime I tend to check my favorite sites at least three or four times a day, and that's at my employers expense. So what's the solution? I'm not sure, this is a website for 'PalmAddicts', that I agree with, so there's a start. It's an expensive hobby, but something I enjoy, and if that's the case then there is no harm in it.....................or am I too obsessive? I've added a forum posting on this. Are you to Palm obsessive? Do you feel that your spending more time looking at Palm websites and searching for Palm software when you should be using your Palm? Add your thoughts please to our forum.

Hey chaps,

There is a $200 discount on the Treo 270 for existing Visorphone users in the US. However, after contacting customer support in Europe, I have been informed that no such scheme exists here in Europe.

It seems that Handspring only values its US customers.

That kinda sucks!

There is something called PocketDOS which is an emulator that will run old DOS programs within the Pocket PC (Win CE) environment. Is there something similar for the Palm OS? (I am aware of something called VFS DOS but I think it has only limited file handling functions.) I would certainly love to alter some of my favorite old DOS programs so they'd run on my Palm device.

Are handheld users being fleeced blind by software developers? Cyberspace is strewn with black & white programs that should have been relegated to the dumpheap with the advent of color PDAs. Yet, these apps are still being peddled at hefy prices, even though they have been superseded by newer versions from the same developers or their competitors. Some software-makers won't even let you upgade to the latest version unless you pay the full price. Handheld manufacturers are just as guilty of technological estafa when they market new hardware that contain obsolete software. Are Palm programs exempt from the laws of depreciation and product obsolescence? And what about consumer rights? Is there no such thing in the PDA world?

I have recently laid aside my Compaq Ipaq with it's wonderful color screen, fast processor, integration with Windows, etc.
I stored it away and brought my old heavily used Visor Deluxe from it's moth balled storage and back into daily usage. The move back was not voluntary. The Compaq simply did not provide the daily utility that the Visor did (and does). Some of the reasons may be of interest to the handheld community as a whole.
First of all, it had nothing to do with the Compaq per se. As noted, it is a marvelous device and works well. Any other backlit color screened, built in battery device would have suffered from the same drawbacks.
My Visor is used to store hundreds of addresses, appointments, Outlines, notes, books, etc. I can't always be near a PC every single day to hot sync. The safety and integrity of my data is important. I need to count on it absolutely. Likewise, I can't always count on a handy AC outlet nearby every moment. More importantly, I don't want to have to think about and care for my handheld every day. If I'm stuck at the airport for 4 or 5 hours and want to read a novel I can simply use the Visor and if needed pop in a couple of AAA's if needed (most likely not). With the Compaq, I'm out of luck period. If I go on vacation and leave the Visor in my briefcase at home it's no sweat. With the Compaq all my data not hot sync'd is lost.
The bottom line here is having to think about, maintain, and worry about the Compaq every day. The Visor (not color) is just always there ready for use.
This is the very essence of the Zen of Palm. Built in batteries that have to be recharged daily distract me. Wonderful, Sexy color screens that I can read in the dark eat batteries and require me to worry about the device.
If you use the handheld and require reliable data storage and retrieval without worry, stick with a replaceable battery grey scale screen. If you like to play games and impress your neighbors, the bright color machines will work just fine.
Anyone in the market for a (cheap) compaq ipaq?

CNET have featured what they think are the ten best Palm games available. Some of the games I agree with, some games have not even been included. However we all have our personal favourites, however good to see Scrabble is there. So with this in mind I wanted to know, what are your favourite Palm games? I have started a forum posting where you can read others favourites and add your own. We will report back in a few days and try to build some sort of favourites table so please give us your thoughts within the forum.

How many Palm handhelds do you own? In fact not just Palm handhelds, consider all handhelds whether Pocket PC, Palm, Psion or any other. I have started a forum piece on this one. Add your comments please. I personally own at the present time:

Palm m505
Handspring Treo 180
Jornada 720
Psion 5mx
Palm IIIc
Psion Series 3c

However at the present time I am using a Palm m505 mainstream.

Hello All,
Before I begin, if these little notes of my fascination with my Palm start to wear on you, please let me know - I have no desire to recover thoughts and ideas that many of you may have posted at a prior time.

Today while out and about with my big boss from our headquarters in HongKong visiting clients, the Palm was a life saver in terms of being organized, on time and comprehensive in its usefulness. What I'm looking forward to is being able to zap all these notes to my boss before he leaves (we still have another round of meetings to go tomorrow). Much more immediate for him...less stressful on me to compile a report from paper notes and memory. While still a newby at this whole Palm thing, I see what a powerful tool this is to me...how did I ever get along without it?! ;-) And, while we were talking over lunch I did mention that it would be nice to have a computer upgrade in the office so that I could have something with a USB port to really tap into the power of this incredible piece of technology. He agreed ( and he knows the value of having a PDA, he has a iPaq.)...however, will this translate into something concrete within the next month or so? Don't know...but it would be nice if our office got an authorization to go out and spend some $ so at least I could synch up my ACT database with my DateBk4.

BTW, does anyone know of a connector cable that I could get in the meantime - something that will allow me to hook my Palm up to a tower that does not have a USB port, but has regular ports instead?

We ended up sitting there for a half hour beaming back and forth...before doing any business. USER THOUGHT: Your thoughts please - George Lechter
I now have a Palm Vx I use it a lot on my desk but also when I travel I have a Omnisky modem and I get email with it. Now I bought a Sony NR70 but that thing in your pocket is too much. So I'm thinking of the upcoming T650 I love the Treo but it is only 160 x 160 whereas the t650 is 320 by 320. However, the thought of connecting the t650 to my cell phone via one of those cables they sell is weird. If it is so good why are so few references to those cables?
Questions for you:
What do you think, is the treo screen much smaller than the t650 I was waiting for Sprint Treo cause I don't like GSM, I like PCS (its lower in radiation I think) do you know anyone who walks around with one of those cables in his pocket? Your thoughts please on the forum.
Subject: Handspring's gambit: revolution or retrogression

Author:

Date Posted: 05:07:26 06/12/02 Wed

Handspring has made a Queen's gambit by abandoning Graffiti in favor keyboard text input. In the chequered board of the PDA market, it could well be a brilliant move worthy of a Kasparov or the prelude to a disastrous endgame for the company. I'm afraid that the latter result is more likely for the following reasons:

1. The human hand has been attuned--both physiologically and historically--to the use of a pen or a stylus. Indeed, the ability to "handwrite" highlights man's creative power to use his appositive thumb in conjunction with his four fingers to wield a tool.

2. The built-in keyboard Handspring has introduced in the Treo line is really a thumbpad, which will never be good enough for anyone who believes in ergonomics. The claim that keyboard writing is faster than Graffiti is debatable and really beside the point. The main issue is which mode is more natural, and thus more efficient, given the limitations of human physiognomy.

By virtually eliminating Graffiti, Handspring also appears to have ignored the fact that many people love using their PDAs precisely because these gadgets enable them to combine the "natural-ness" of handwriting and the computing powers of a PC. The PDA, in sum, represents the harmony between man and machine, between nature and technology, that human civilization has always aspired to.

Handspring's controversial decision is revolutionary in so far as it attempts to subvert that harmony by introducing another product approach. On the other hand, it is alarmingly retrogressive: it could throw us back to the 70s and the age of keyboard-aided electronic organizers.

NEWS: Dataviz brings Documents to go attachments to your inbox viewlessly, (you can also send attachments too) - Sammual (webmaster)

I'm still trying to get my head around this one, however I am sure to give you more of an insight and my personal opinion on this one over the weekend. But, it's good news for people like me who put together documents on their Palm and have been wanting to send Word attachments to people. Now I have just read through the email that I was sent and checked out Dataviz's website and I think you need a 'always on internet connection' so your Outlook can forward your attachments to your Palm, using special installation software on your PC, from Dataviz, however as I said I am still trying to work it out. Basically it's a revised inbox on your Palm called 'Inbox To Go', and it's free to test up until October because it's in beta.

"Real Company E-mail & Attachments Wirelessly!
Read, reply, forward and send e-mail right from your handheld just as if you were sitting at your desk. Now you can stay connected with the office and clients even when you're on the road.

Get Your Attachments
Inbox To Go along with Documents To Go is the ONLY mail program with support for attachments created in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other applications. So whether it's that crucial contract you're waiting for from the office or just a picture of your newborn nephew, you'll be able to open all your important files on your handheld anywhere, anytime."

Sounds pretty good to me, however I am beginning to think the 'always connected thing' may be a problem, but I am probably wrong, however until I get the facts clear in my mind and re-read the instructions I will keep an open mind. Click on the posting header to go to the Dataviz page that describes how it works.

I am a recent addition to the world of Palm through the purchase of a Handspring Visor Neo and need experienced advice. One of my main justifications for buying a PDA was the ability to take with me the text of Web pages for later reading. I know I can copy the text and put it into one or more memos but I was wondering if the readers of this site could suggest other and more time-efficient ways of accomplishing the same task. I sync from MS Office on Win2000 using Pocket Mirror at work and the Palm Desktop on a Win98 at home and I want to make use of the MS Explorer and AOL accesses I currently have.

I'll start this by telling you about receiving my PalmIIIc.. Christmas morning found my Husband & I watching our 2 1/2 yr old opening presents. When it was our turn, my Daughter handed me a small box & said Happy Christmas Momma. Opening it I discovered a case for a Palm Pilot. And, as you can imagine, I freaked!!! From that moment on I have not been without my "Palmie" or little puter as Daughter calls it. She has even learned how to run many of the programs and I download games for her whenever I can find them. She loves the "little Angel" program... of course, I change some of the sayings, but she gets a huge kick out of being mooned by an angel. There isn't anything that I don't love about "Palmie." I have games on it, it helps me keep track of expenses & time put into my volunteer work, I read e-books on it, there are pics of my family on it, and the address book & datebook are a life saver to me. A tip to everyone....go and find "Today"...small program that pops up every time you turn on your Palmie... tells you appt for the day, to do's, memory & battery charges, fantastic little program. My only complaint about my Palmie is the mail. I am not one of the super intelligant computer people out there. I know a lot about puters, how to find things, and fix things, but I cannot get my email to work correctly to save my life. Some how I obviously have the settings wrong to send or receive email, and I cannot figure out how to fix them. All in all... if I had the email working I would give the PalmIIIc *****, but I'll withhold one and only give it ****. My Husband on the other hand... a great big **********! He knows me too well!

I disagree with your preference of Mazingo over AvantGo. Especially when it comes to PPC (I had not tried Mazingo on Palm, only Avantgo). Mazingo is better in that it supports files other than webpages BUT unless you have a good Internet connection, it hangs often in the middle of syncing without any recourse but to close the application. Syncing also takes forever on a 56k dial-up - it uses your PC connection as proxy unlike avantGo who have their own proxy servers. Finally, Mazingo is not fully free, a lot of features like custom channels require a monthly fee which I feel is not worth it considering you are not using any of Mazingo's resources (Except Software).
Other than Avantgo, I prefer IsiloX, which also doesn't use a proxy server but had an easier to use interface (than Mazingo) and store everything in your own PC. Handstory's cool too, and so is Plucker. Seems Palm OS had much more to choose from when it comes to Offline Browsers. When will the Browser from Palm finally arrive, it's two months late!

Hi,
I need some help, in the PDA world.
Since the begining, my dream machine was/is a Newton. But, here in Portugal the PDA market is very weak and those Apple models were very expensive.

So, in 1997, I tried a machine with a keyboard: a Psion 3a. Very good machine, indeed.
When my car was stolen, the thief took the Psion too.
So, my wife ofered me a Psion 5. Better machine, with a wonderful keyboard.

In 2000, my chief chalenged me to buy a Palm. And I bought a Palm V: slim, no keyboard (but bought one later), little RAM, but it fits in my shirt pocket.

I was so addicted, that I bought a Handera 330, last year: Uauuu !, what a Palm ! No silkscreen, so the the screen was bigger, hires (240 X 320), 8 MB RAM, two expansion slots (I've got a 16 Mb, 32 MB and 128 MB CF - this one in my Frontier Labs NEX II MP3 Player), and I bought a foldable keyboard too....

(I'm waiting for the Handera colour version, or to convince my wife about the Sony NR70 V)

I use my Handera to schedule my work, read ebooks, play some games, but the lack of a bigger screen...

Now I have the oportunity to buy a Newton
So anyone can tell me what the advantages of a Newton Message Pad 2100 ? Sincerily ?

With the launch of Treo 90, one would think that prices of the now-obsolescent Visor models would plummet like a meteor. Alas, Handspring seems to be too much of a penny-pincher to give its loyal customers a break. Consider the following prices as posted today at the Handspring site:

Visor Pro - $199 (down by 15% from $229)
Visor Edge - $169 (down 17.75% from $199)
Visor Platinum & Neo(- $149 down by 13.42% from $169)

The Prism still retails for $299 - same as the listed price for Treo 90. This is tantamount to selling a 1999-vintage car to one that has just rolled off the assembly line.

Incredible.

I was utterly dismayed when I recently checked out the much-ballyhooed monochrome Treo 180 at a computer shop in Manila. The Taiwan-made unit sported the sort of cheap plastic which Lego would never dream of using. Workmanship was so shoddy that extracting the stylus from its socket took some maneuvering. What lay under the hood was even more disappointing. The obsolescent Dragonball VZ processor was complemented by equally obsolescent software. All this for the equivalent of US$588! No thanks, Handspring. I'll stick to my Prism and purchase a Visorphone, even if this, too, has been made obsolescent by the Treo line.

OK, so I have received a number of responses from you guys, to the Fossil PDA Watch, informing me of your various views, well first just to let you know that the anywheretogo website has a review of the new watch, which confirms that it does not run Palm OS, "Don't be fooled by the name, the Wrist PDA does not run on the Palm OS"
Your views have been quite strong on this one, Joyce Reynolds wrote to me, (thanks for the comments Joyce!) and said she had never seen anything so ugly "why does anyone need this if they already have a Palm that can blow this thing away!!!!!!!!!" I Joyce agree with you, but I have to admit that it is neat, Smithy a Palm i705 user from Canada loves the design "I wouldn't buy it, it's like something from the 60's, but the design is cool, but it needs more development before I would consider purchasing it." Yep guys it needs time to evolve. Got comments on this one, let us know on the forum.

The diary for a starter on my Palm m515, is a 'joy' to use, especially with added features such as Datebk. It links all my journal details and appointments all very nicely. A quick game of Billiards by Megasoft in my free time is a pleasure to play and I am so addicted. So if you want something to help you productive in your work time and help spend those hours doing something pleasurable, pick a Palm, not your wife (only joking to my wife), but the Palm comes a close second ;-)

USER STORY: Using a m515 to study - Lee Harper I own a m515, and in fact previously had owned a m505. I think my Palm is excellent and as a student it comes with me everywhere. Firstly it categorizes all my lessons, and keeps me aware of what and where I should be. I set alarms an hour before each lesson, because if I am quietly studying, the time can easily pass me by. I use Documents to Go, to keep written notes of my lectures. I use a mini keyboard to snap on and type as the lecture goes on. This is brilliant because I can then sync my Palm back to my Windows XP PC. It means that I do not have to re-type what I have just observed, and saves me a great deal of time. I use the notepad facility to get important snippets of information. Avantgo keeps me up to date with all the news I need. I have the mobile version of the New York Times. This is a great read in the mornings on the way college. I am searching for a good quality case for my m515 and as yet have not found the ideal case but I continue to search. As I say I really am obsessed with my Palm and would not go anywhere without it.

USER STORY: Using the Palm as a sales aid - Hess Walkden I just wanted to say that my Palm m505 allows me to make the best of my time. I often fly domestic across the US, and often look at my fellow travellers, who take a good two to three minutes to load up their laptops. The Palm switches on instantly without any delay and I can get on with my work instantly. As a travelling sales representative I need my sales figures and quotes close by. All the information I need can be found in my Palm. I use Action Names, as my PIM. I feel that it is the most flexible and powerful diary application and is best suited to my needs. The Palm is the ideal solution for sales professionals.

Having owned a Palm since the early days I am very pleased that Palm is doing so well. I now own one of the new i705 Palm models and have no problems with it. Everyone can get hold of me wherever I am thanks to the 'always on' mode. For those that are not happy with the way that Palm is proceeding must ask themselves what do they want to get out of their Palm? Maybe the Pocket PC is best for them. However I think most for most people the i705 or other Palm shoul;d be sufficent. The only complaint that I have is the fact that memory should be expanded, but there are always memory cards for those that need the extra space.

I've owned my Palm m125 for about a month now, and absolutely love it. It sure helps me stay organized (using ActionNames), up-to-date on the current news stories (Avantgo), and entertained (Vexed). Aside from a few glitches I'm having, things are going great. :)

I haven't really used the SD slot yet, but might eventually get a memory card or even the Bluetooth adapter. :)

What more is there to say? Palm rules!

Hi!

I tried to install ZboxZ (used to be called Palm Box) to my IBM WorkPad 20X but didn't manage to get it working. I saw somewhere that one guy had the same problem with Palm III (which is identical device as far as I know) and run into same problems.

The program looks very good and usable "on paper" and I've seen many posts praising it. I just wish I could get it working too.

I don't usually do plugs for companies or products but must make an exception in this case. I have recently begun using thinkDB 2.5 from thinkingbytes, Inc. This app. is truly amazing! (and stable beleive it or not.) it has several advanced DB functions including DB joining! WOW! a must have for any palm!!! E-mail me if you have similar thoughts. Also, I would be happy to design and impliment a DB for enterprise use if anyone finds has a need. This app. is POWERFUL! Happy Palming. great site.

I have an i705 and love it. I know a lot of people have experienced problems with the MultiMail facility but I love the way that not only can I organize my life but I can also obtain my email wherever I am. The wonders of using such a small computer such as a Palm.
