She made a wonderful friend that made the whole experience really fun for her. She won divisional Beauty (by default but we won't tell her) and Prettiest Eyes and shock to us! It was very exciting to see her come out of her shell and she said she felt so special. We were lucky - the prizes were great and she met a wonderful friend so she loves pageants! I belived whole heartedly that the awards were given out to the appropriate contestants. The other girls were dressed better, performed better and did deserve their just due. But in defense of other opinions: the judges were friendly with many of the other moms and contestants, they did not pay attention to some of the contestants when on stage and they talked to people in the audience so I can see why that would fuel some sour grapes. We met a bad seed but it didn't matter after the crowd was so supportive when she was crowned and they announced it was her first pageant. I think it is hard competition but the directors really put alot into the gifts and that was sincerly appreciated. I rate it and "A" - it's a day she'll never forget.

[> [> [> Re: WOW! You sound like a great mom. We met you yesterday and your daughter is beautiful. You went into this with a great attitude and your daughter reflected that. As far as the judges knowing many of the contestants, that is true. However, if you get to know them, you will also know how fair they are. They love all the kids and would not give the children anything less than their honest opinion. -- Their children and grandchildren compete and this is how they would want to be judged. It's hard to find judges that know what to look for that don't know most of the kids. Especially for a prelim., 09:56:19 05/13/02 Mon

[> [> [> [> Thanks for the kind words. I agree and understand you regarding the judges, it's just a matter of getting to know everyone and perhaps next time we'll talk to the judges and get some feedback to learn from. I bet it is hard to find judges that are so cari -- Shawn, 12:20:57 05/13/02 Mon

[> [> [> [> As I was saying lol...I bet it's hard to find judges that are caring and concerned about the contestants unless they themselves have been successful on the other side of the table too. I've judged in another state and you don't do it unless you truely lov -- Sorry about the repost, still figuring this board thing out., 12:26:50 05/13/02 Mon

[> [> [> [> Sometimes talking to your people can't be helped especially if they need advice. The talent outcome was appropriate so she did a great job. -- Did I get the whole response in this time? lol, 12:31:57 05/13/02 Mon

Now Shelby wants to do talent after seeing Morgan and Kassie sing! lol We need a dress first - one step at a time.
