趙薇、王學圻、中井貴一，合演「天地英雄」成為好友，3個人利用拍片空檔玩遍新疆景點，比較同片的3位男演員，趙薇大眼碌碌地說，「王老師像爸爸，他在劇組會照顧每個人的情緒，中井貴一像哥哥，他很會玩遊戲，姜文像---，（趙薇停頓想了一下，）像小孩，他比較衝動，情緒比我還不穩定，有更多變化。」50多歲的王學圻，片中穿薄紗大露結實身材，比趙薇露肩的出浴戲更聳動，大陸影壇被尊稱王老師的王學圻，不太習慣談裸露戲，他不好意地說，「我空軍軍人出身，本來就愛運動，導演也要求我健身。」

趙薇在「天地英雄」裡戲份沒有3位男星多，但也在新疆拍了3、4個月，趙薇說，「何平導演很注重拍片現場的氛圍，我比較晚進劇組，就先花時間融入劇組生活，其實我的戲份半個月就能拍完，演這部戲不累，等得卻很辛苦。」

中井貴一是導演何平在日本請到的寶，何平盛讚「他的語言中樞極發達，中文對白死背，但發音與感情都非常好。」中井貴一說他之前沒接觸過中文，即使與王菲合演日劇，王菲也沒教過他，拍片前他花了7個月，每個月與中文老師上4堂課，到大陸偏遠地區拍戲1百天，中井貴一說，「一開始周圍的朋友都說，40歲了何必受這種苦，但我從演員與人的成長角度看，為了更上一層與新的挑戰，大家的反對反而促使我拿出勇氣。」
