The City and People of Grel

These are very practical people. They split from the city state of Chaleu Lex about 150 years ago because they had grown tired with the greed and passion rampant all over the city. They traveled for 4 months before settling down and starting their new city. This was a very difficult time for the �pilgrims�, but they were practical people and took care of each other and made the journey with very little loss of life. Now, 150 years later, the practical city of Grel has grown. Everyone has a one-syllable name except for the king and his family. The king and his family are allowed two syllable names and the king himself is allowed a second name if he wishes. If people share the same name they are then referred to their occupation as well such as Kril the bow maker and Kril the innkeeper.

These people are very practical and love items that can do more than one job. The favored weapon of the city militia is the ax since it can be used in battle and used, if needed, to cut tree and firewood. All people in this city know how to read and write the language, even farmers. These are practical people and prize intelligence. Their favorite sayings are �work smarter not harder� and �use your head before your hands�. All Grel know how to use a quarterstaff and bow. All Grel children are taught the useful herbs around the area and taught how to hunt with the bow and to defend themselves with the quarterstaff.

Now just because these people are practical does not mean these people don�t dream or are just drab and dull. There is a huge citywide party once every year that lasts two days. They start preparing for this party two weeks before it begins. Being practical half of the city parties the first night and the other half parties the second night. It is bad form if a person does not get seriously soused during the day they are to party and most deem it a failure if they do not pass out drunk.
