That's my biggest concern with anyone other than Michael Neville taking over. Say what you like about Deadly Doug Ellis (and many people do!) he's always managed to keep the club going without massive loss, and has always had the club's best interest at heart (though possibly second in priority to his retirement fund of late *wink*).

People accuse him of being tight and having no ambition, but that's not strictly true. Yes, his practices are somewhat out of date, and he is a control freak with the managers, but he's seen what has happened to other clubs, financially, and tried to protect Villa as much as possible.

Ellis has held the club back in some ways, that can't be denied, but in others he's done it a lot of good. His investment in building up the stadium and training ground so that they are world class, for example, pays dividends when you consider the income from the ground being used for international matches for example.
